McKinney Returns to the TriCities

Mark McKinney (NextMedia) is rumored to be leaving us here in sunny South Carolina, to program his old station in the TriCities Tennessee. According to
radio people, they could not replace him at his old station and they have been
with out a PD for 2 years now. We wish Mark all the best as he returns home.
 
I had heard a rumor to that effect, but I didn't want to say anything until I knew better. Now it sounds like it may be coming to fruition. Will Mark program 'TFM differently, now that he's been somewhere else, or will it be the same programming as it has been?
 
Hmmmm. That's very, very, very interesting. That's a head scratcher. I was under the impression that he was pretty happy in Myrtle Beach, but who knows? I have heard stranger rumours than that before. But they haven't been without a PD for two years. David DeFranzo was the PD until last Spring, around April, 2006, so really just a little under a year now. It would be a good move. I have a heckuva lot of respect for Mark, and so do a majority of the people at HVBC. Good consensus builder and able to move people where they need to be without pushing them.
 
Mark may have seen the writing on the wall in Myrtle Beach. NextMedia had been relieving quite a few people of their duties at their properties in Wilmington and I heard they were gonna do the same at Myrtle Beach. So, if NextMedia's doing all that, it's good that Mark's getting out while he can.
 
Sorry folks, I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but I just don't think Mr. McKinney is going to be coming back to Holston Valley to be the WTFM Program Director. Now, like I said, I could be wrong and I have been before, but my guess is that David Widener is not gonna hire one any time in the near future. If they were going to, they would've already done it. Management is using the consulting company to make programming decisions (Vallie), plus they're saving 35-grand a year. Plus I have a feeling that it would take more than that to get Mark back up here. Also, they'd had quite a few people apply for the job when I was still working there, and I have to guess that at least one of them was adequate to do it. Finally, Mark has family in the Myrtle Beach area and when I last spoke to him a few months back, he seemed happy to be in that neck of the woods. And like I said previously, Mark would be a great replacement for himself, but I just don't think it will happen. As long as the numbers stay about where they are, David, George DeVault and Bill Boyd are going to be content in that and saving a few dollars.
 
??? Nextmedia is whacking more managers, PDs and jocks than Tony Soprano. Jeffie is certainly making his mark on the company now that Skipper is gone and the Chicago managers were jettisoned in favor of that kid from the sprawling metropolis of.....Saginaw, MI. Put on your cheapest suit. It's spinoff time!!!
 
I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but I'm sitting 2 feet from Mark and he assures me he is not going anywhere. He'd love to know who strted this, though. It has given us all a nice laugh! Have a nice day.
 
Talk to TouchScreen...he's the one starting the thread. I had heard a rumor that Mark was coming to Tennessee sometime in '07, and you know what happens when rumors start. I hope Mark and Jenny are happy, wherever they are. I'd kinda like to see him, being as I'm only an hour away from him now. Maybe that will happen. Scottmann, tell him DK said hey.
