Me-TV FM

MeTVfm is in a few a markets of various sizes.
WRME-LD 87.7 Franken FM in Chicago
WJMK (AM) 1250 AM, Bridgeport, Michigan
WXZO 96.7 FM, Willsboro, New York
WGTO 910 AM, Cassopolis, Michigan
WMEX (AM) 1510 AM, Quincy/Boston, Massachusetts(Just uses the Syndicated Format, not branded as MeTVfm)
WTUG-FM HD3 (W248BO 97.5 FM) Tuscaloosa, Alabama
KVOL 97.7, Lafayette, Louisiana
KSLO-FM 105.3, Simmesport, Louisiana
WDQN (AM) 1580-AM, Du Quoin, Illinois

Do you think it will work here?
Is there an audience? Possibly. Will it make money? No. MeTV-FM, like Wow Factor in Phoenix and other older skewing stations does not bill well due to most of its listeners being outside the money demos sought by stations. Outside of today's launch in Palm Springs, all of the signals MeTV-FM is on are either AMs with translators, rimshots, or a Franken-FM.

I wouldn't mind hearing it, because KLUV is not the same KLUV I remember. They played "This Is How We Do It", by Montell Jordan today, and I had to make sure I had it on the right station.

On the other hand, Palm Springs is not in a market with a lot of agency business. The average age here is in the lower 40's, but if you include the "snowbirds" who are here 9 months of the year, it is over 50!

So retail and service advertisers depend on seniors for most of their business.

And this is the only market I know of where the local TV news can have two ads in the same break for plastic surgery or Botox treatments or the like! And every break has an A/C service company ad in it.

If you consider that half the population is Hispanic and younger than average, the non-Hispanic white population is even older. So those formats aimed at 55+ can do very, very well.

Which might add to the speculation that the two stations will merge into one format as part of other changes in the market…🤔
MeTV FM is NOT a Jack format. It's pure and simple, soft AC oldies. It is very similar to a traditional AC station of the 80s era, playing a mix of oldies and soft contemporary hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s. They don't play anything newer and they don't go off the rails with their variety. You won't hear Ozzy, Duran Duran, Soft Cell, Skynrd, Boston or AC/DC...no rap, no hard stuff...just mellow to upbeat AC....old AC, that is.

Also, MeTV FM is a programming service - they are already well-established in their other markets and are using the same format in Palm Springs, so this is not a locally produced "let's try a new format here and then we'll tweak it as the market dictates." If it doesn't work they will drop the format and branding and go with something else. They will not merge with another format or brand.

I'm 53 and I actually like the format. I worked at a Soft AC station in 1989. Today they are still AC, but don't play any 60s or 70s and only a few 80s.

One thing I'm learning, is radio will definitely remind you of your age. Especially when you're hearing songs from your 20's now being played on an Oldies station.

It’s time for KLUV to change to another format, the music KLUV is playing now sounds like what JACK is playing now.
It appears KLUV is beginning to sound more like sibling 95.7 The Spot in Houston, which has been quite successful.

That could very well be part of a larger process, the overall goal likely revealed in the very near future.

1510 WMEX in Boston also carries MeTV Music (what they call MeTV FM, since they're not on FM) during evening and overnight hours.

We may very well see KRLD come to the FM dial. They will have to do something more than AM and HD2 if they are going to keep the brand relevant. The Fan could stay on 105.3 with new calls while the KRLD-FM calls migrate to wherever the FM simulcast is.

I don’t see KLUV flipping, maybe just a rebrand. If they are doing some kind of merger, perhaps 100.3 ends up flipping. It may be a better idea to lean Jack a little more classic rock to peel some numbers off of KZPS. A flip to soft AC may work as long as it doesn’t skew too old. I don’t see any Audacy stations worth flipping right now.
