1PM GUNSMOKE (7 hours)
8PM two more hours of MARSHAL DILLON

I wonder why CBS is still distributing the black and white episodes of "Gunsmoke" as "Marshal Dillon", especially since the Family Channel broadcasted the black and white half-hour series as "Gunsmoke" back in the 1990s?

I think bpatrick or somebody answered this question awhile back. I think it had something to
do with syndication rights???? or making a distinction between the half hour and hour show.

Originally, from '62 to '64, CBS aired repeats of early(30-minute) episodes of 'Gunsmoke' under the 'Marshall Dillon' title, on Tuesday nights. The title change helped distinguish the reruns from the current episodes(which expanded to an hour in 1961). As far as I know, while the half-hour shows have since aired under the original title, those episodes are in a separate package from the 1961 and later hourlong shows. i thought I read that TV Land's package included on episodes from 1963 on, skipping the first two hourlong seasons.
