ME TV-Rhoda

I may be way off base here but I just don't feel it's right, while Valerie Harper is battling a fatal brain tumor, for ME TV to be running all these promos about the "Rhoda" show debuting next Monday night. I would think it would be more appropriate to shelf "Rhoda" for the time being.

I don't agree. In almost all the shows on the Oldies channels, the leading actors are either dead or very old and infirm. Rhoda is Valerie Harper's best role. The show has not been seen for a while and it is a tribute to her (as is the Mary Tyler Moore Show, also being shown on ME). Larry Hagman and Andy Griffith passed recently but fortunately their work lives on.

My cynical thinking is that ME-TV is putting it on so that when she sadly passes away, they can have a marathon of episodes, along with the gawkers who will watch "to remember her."

I don't find it offensive at all. I really like Rhoda on MTM. The series was ok but not great. Remember it is show BUSINESS. Her work was meant to be seen.

True, but if it was meant to be seen, then why wait until after she announced that she was dying to bring it back?

I'm more curious about the episode she, along with other 'MTM' regulars, did for 'Hot in Cleveland'; that episode appears to have been commissioned, and rushed to taping, as a result of Harper's diagnosis earlier this year. I believe they gave her about three months to live at the time. She's outlived that diagnosis, but I haven't seen anything about when the episode will air.

The fourth paragraph of the linked article states the "Hot in Cleveland" episode in question will air on TV Land on Sept. 4.

I would think that the actress would be flattered that her work is still available and being shown after all these years. Also, she may enjoy watching herself in action and she might not get the chance if her show(s) aren't shown anywhere.

I don't think MeTV had any bad intent at all. They might have actually gotten a bigger bang out of "Rhoda" if they held it back until ... and then scheduled a marathon of the show. I think they got the show, and scheduled it at the next normal opportunity.
