ME TV

"Newhart" has been tried time and again and can't make it in Chicago. So it's unlikely the Chicago based "ME-TV" would go for it. It never lasts more than a few months.

I have "Newhart" on tape and it really doesn't hold up well. The first two years are OK, but when they dropped, the Kirk character and brought on the one joke, "Larry, Darryl and Darryl" full time, it slid.

I remember watching a marathon of it, on my tapes and it was shockingly unfunny in reruns to see how the Stephanie character when from being funny to just a cliche of herself.

I wish Me-TV and ME-TOO (Chicago only) would shake up their schedule quarterly, like they used to

ME-TV carries programs that I haven't seen in years.

12 o'Clock High
The Guns of Will Sonnett
Honey West
Kojak
The Untouchables

There are many other programs this network carries. I hope that in the future ME-TV will add more shows.

My only compliant is, like other networks, ME-TV is editing the hell out of shows to make way for their network promos. Adding commercials I can understand, to a point, but to butcher a show just to air more promos is a damn shame.

No need to be rude while expressing your frustration in writing. You should have better control over the words you choose to type and post than the words you say.

Anyway, could you explain the editing at Me-TV? I would be surprised to know parts of episodes were removed for their Me-TV presentations, since the first commercial breaks for episodes of "Get Smart" are very short.

I liked the Kirk character. After he departed, the show seemed to go downhill, however, I still watched since I was a Bob Newhart fan.

The only editing I have seen on ME-TV is the opening credits on the Untouchables. Other than that I haven't noticed any shows cut short.
As far as Newhart, I did not like the early episodes. Especially the ones shot on video tape. I thought Larry & Daryl (2) were funny and were used sparingly as not to kill the joke. They ended the show before it jumped the shark but they could see the shark in the water.

For all of its flaws, I'd much rather have "Newhart" than "That Girl".

They pair the Mary Tyler Moore series ("MTM" and "Dick Van Dyke"), why not do it for Bob?

I'd like to see "Get Smart" in the weekday lineup, too. IIRC, it runs at about 1 AM on Saturday nights.
