Meanwhile, EMF continues to grow.

The thread about Salem prompted me to think about what might happen if they were to switch to a non-commercial model.

Completely different programming, but it suits EMF very well. I suspect a lot of folks here have seen this, but if not it's worth the read - especially the part about the genesis of EMF:

If you look at Salem's Christian stations, they're doing well, even as commercial operations. The Fish is one of the highest rated stations in Atlanta. The boat anchors are their AM syndicated conservative talk stations. They're all bad signals, and advertisers don't like far right wing talk. There isn't much they can do with that.

I forgot they have CCM outlets. Of course, you're right. I was thinking about the conservative talk outlets and whether there would be enough people out there to support it with donations. Realistically it's more palatable than what is found on, for example, CSN. But their costs have to be higher too.

Thats a very interesting idea. I don't know if people would pay money to listen to any of the Salem hosts. Rush Limbaugh had a pay tier on his website for additional content, podcasts, and archives.

What Salem does or did, was each station was generally is host for one show. The remaining programs would be from other Salem stations. The host station would have the show available for other Salem stations. I thought that was an interesting cost-saving idea. Then again, Salem will toss out their plan when the market research shows a different plan would be better.

Many of these talk show hosts are monetizing the website with special items and insider subscriptions.
