Mechanical Noise in Audio Circuit

Hello All,

I have yet another issue with another piece of gear.

I have a semi pro Denon CD player that has aux and S/PDIF outs.

I am using the analogue aux out to feed an analogue console. The problem is when the input is "up" I can hear the mechanical operation of the player when it is searching for a track in the form of noise in the audio circuit . It's a zizzing sound, that sounds kind of like a zipper. I have tried grounding it to the console but that did not help.

Any thoughts from any of you brainiacs as to what is going on here? ???

Its driving me nuts.

???

It's not mechanical noise, it's electrical.

You have some dried up electrolytic capacitors in the audio and/or logic section. Probably all the power supply bypasses are shot.

Units of that vintage generally need to have all their electrolytics shotgunned...

Yes - your pick-up is going bad. You either need to clean it and re-adjust the laser power and focus/tracking (assuming it's professional player that can be serviced) or you need to replace the pick-up...
