Today in his column Scott Fybush speculated maybe COX would by WFSB Channel 3 and then maybe buy the 4 CBS Radio stations in the market (93.7 Hip-Hop, 96.5 Hot AC, 100.5 AC, and 1080 News/Talk). My question is would that be allowed because COX already has 3 cable franchises in the state of Connecticut.
Franchise 1: Southington, Meriden, and Cheshire.
Franchise 2: Manchester, Glastonbury, Rocky Hill, Newington, and Wethersfield.
Franchise 3: Enfield and a bunch of other towns along the Connecticut/Massachusetts state-line.
I wonder if CBS has any interest in buying WFSB, that has been a top CBS affiliate for decades.Who would be interested in buying the spin-off stations in Connecticut and Springfield?
Hubbard?
Sinclair?
COX?
Not FOX. There's no football team.
The real irony here would be if WGGB Springfield, Mass is the statin spun off and it went to Sinclair as Sinclair was a previous owner of WGGB. Many moons ago Gannet sold WGGB to Sinclair. Then several years ago Sinclair sold WGGB to local ownership. Then last year local ownership sold it to Merideth.
Nexstar Offers $4.1 Billion for Media General
Charging that Media General deal to acquire Meredith is "value-destructive" and "ill-conceived," Nexstar CEO Perry Sook says he is prepared to pay $14.50 for Media General, a 30% premium over Friday's close. Sook said he had tried to buy Media General in August prior to its announcement to buy Meredith for $2.4 billion. The $4.1 billion price tag includes assumption of debt.
Now the New York Post is reporting that Media General has dropped its bid for Meredith due to shareholder opposition.

Meredith Corporation says the deal to merge with Media General is still on.
TVSpy has learned Meredith told employees in a memo this morning that both boards of directors have approved and signed a merger agreement and it remains “confident in the strategic rationale behind the merger and the shareholder value it will create.” The memo went on to say Meredith is working on closing the deal “in a timely fashion.”
