Mediabase CHR/Pop Panel Updates - Stations That Recently Joined The Panel

It's great to see more and more stations joining the CHR/Pop panel. Some of them have been CHRs, or evolving to CHR over the past few months, or even over the past year. Looks like now it's official!

Please welcome to the fold:
99.5 WZPL Indianapolis
92.1 The Beat Tulsa
101.7 The Beach Monterey-Salinas
Live 95.5 Portland
Hot 107.9 Syracuse
Kelly 95.3 Bakersfield

Stations that will hopefully be moved to the CHR/Pop panel in the coming weeks:
98.1 WKDD Akron
Hot 102 Puerto Rico
Q-102 Cincinatti
Jammin JJS 102.7/104.9 Roanoke-Lynchburg
98.5 KLUC Las Vegas

I saw that WODS in Boston has finally been added too. And with all of these additional stations in the mix "One More Night" has now exceeded 15,000 spins.

Do you know why Mediabase did this change?

They oughta move WZYP-Huntsville OFF of the panel, as it is not (and never has been) a "true" top-40 station!

And then move WKTU, KAMP, and WXRK to the Rhythmic panel, since they're not "true" Top 40 stations!

I was Vegas a few weeks ago and was a bit surprised to hear how much of a pop lean they are having these days. This is the least rhythmic they have sounded to me in over 20 years. They are quite similar in sound to their CHR/Pop panel sister KAMP.

If all of those stations should move, then all the CBS CHRs should move to the rhythmic pannel in your opinion and maybe KQMV. Where is the line between rhythmic-leaning pop and streight ahead rhythmic these days? I think KFAT should be moved over to the pop pannel.

WKTU isn't playing TWO of the songs in the CHR Top 5 (Taylor Swift and Fun) - that's a whole lot worse than any Cumulus station I can think of, including WZYP

KAMP is ignoring Fun (currently #4 on the CHR chart), and WXRK is ignoring Taylor Swift (currently #2 on the CHR chart), as well as completely backing off of Fun

KQMV, Amp/Detroit, and Amp/Boston are playing all the songs in the CHR Top 5 - KMVQ and WODS are even playing Ed Sheeran, so those three are clearly in the CHR column IMO

Isn't KTU supposed to be a dance-leaning station? That does seem a little weird to have two stations on the CHR pannel in the same market own by the same company. Any thoughts on KFAT and is KXJM on the pop pannel? If so that means Portland now has 3 CHR stations! Yikes! Last time I listened to KXJM, they seemed really pop-leaning. In both markets, CC has the mainstream CHR.

At the same time, BDS has kept KTBT, WWKL and WBBM on the Rhythmic Top 40 panel, and we can expect the same from KLUC and WJJS if Mediabase does move the two. As for WKTU and KQMV it looks they should be move back to the Rhythmic column.

The confusion between BDS and Mediabase continues....

The real question is where is the line between the actual formats? I tuned into WWKL a couple weeks ago during the midday, and heard several CHR currents, but also several recurrents/gold that were clearly rhythmic-based, so I would agree they should stay for now, but look for a move to the pop pannel in the next 5 years or so. KFAT is an odd duck, they are very current-heavy as CHR is supposed to be, but they sometimes throw in a hip-hop based track, sometimes an older song, sometimes a newer track not making it big on mainstream, but still in the lower reaches of the CHR pop chart. I just looked yesterday and didn't see Neon Trees on the rhythmic chart, and KQMV is playing that, though not heavily to protect sister Hot AC KLCK. I am still wondering about KXJM? Personally, I am less inclined to listen to a station if I know it is on the rhythmic pannel ahead of time than I am to listen to a station on the pop pannel. Interestingly, last time I looked, aircheckdownloads calls WBBM a CHR, not a rhythmic CHR.
