MEDIATOUCH - FREEZING

We're running MT v 3.1.12 and have been encountering FREEZING problems while in AUTO with alarming regularity. Here's what was going on when it froze this morning:

- song will continued playing while clocks/timers froze
- MT levels continued to work
- audio quality was fine

*** switching from AUTO to LIVE ASSIST

- song continued playing fine
- clocks & timers resumed normal function

*** back to AUTO

- song continued playing fine, clocks & timers continued normal function
- song played out completely...all subsequent items went PTA

>>>>> has anyone encountered this issue? can you suggest a way to resolve this problem?

thanks very much, your advice is appreciated

What changed when the problem began to occur? It is rather likely something was installed or updated on the machine in question immediately before the problem manifested. Check your logs.

Best of luck.

thank you...however, there were no installations/updates immediately before this problem occurred.

this is the third time in as many days it has frozen....and several instances prior to that as well.

in each case re-booting brought things back to life....however....

Some troubleshooting 101 is in order here:

Are you ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN nothing has changed on the computer?
Is Windows Updates set to "Disabled"?
Can you swap out the air machine with a different workstation (e.g production, etc.) and see if the problem continues to occur?

thanks for your reply.....yes, i am certain nothing has changed on the computer.

windows updates is set to disabled.

Media Touch was updated from 3.1.9 to 3.1.12. 3.1.9 had problems with the elements going to PTA on several of our stations. This machine had a fresh install and not updated over 3.1.9.

OK, I'm confused. Your original post said you had problems with 3.1.12, but the machine that's failing is on 3.1.9?

I'd say the next thing to do is get the entire system on a single version. Even if you have to roll back to one before 3.1.9.

The stations were running 3.1.9 and had many problems with it going to PTA. No audio and nothing in cue.
At that time we updated all the stations to 3.1.12. This one stations is now having the issues listed above.
Rolling back would just be going back to another problem.

All other stations are fine with the exception of this one.

You might have to save your config files and reinstall just On Air. There may have been a system file corrupted for whatever reason. We're still on 2.6, but a couple years back had some funky issues with On Air. Reinstalling repaired the On Air installation and fixed the issues.

Back in about April or May, we had the EXACT same issue with iMediatouch. The machine would play audio but then freeze. I believe we were on 3.1.12 as well.

After we reported the issue, they released an 'updated' 3.1.12 to correct this issue. Has worked fine since. Verify that you have the 'correct' 3.1.12, which is probably the latest release on the OMT FTP site.

Hope that helps...

Second Post: Also, take a look at a failing audio drive. We had that problem as well. The problem exposed itself with freezing/stuttering audio. Check Event Viewer for issues and, in addition, you can often download a utility from the HD manufacturer's site that will analyze your disk. I've used Western Digital's utility, which diagnosed the failing disk.

Make sure that your PD's didn't change any time sync commands in their logs/templates. These only work in Auto mode, and the machine could be freaking if it's trying to read a malformed string. As a matter of fact, double check any command strings that may be in the logs.
