Medium Cancelled

Only 7 million viewers per week? Ion would kill for such a steady audience! :D

This is yet another example of a show that started out great from the start,
which viewers grew tired of. Can I get a 5-0 from Hawaii on that one?

I saw a few episodes but I haven't even thought about this show since it moved to CBS. I'm already watching Monk solve mysteries and then, thanks to VHS, watching Clark Kent and his friends solve other mysteries.

Or was that on during "The Good Guys"? A fun show.

We need to look at it this way:

NBC pulled the plug on the show, then CBS picked it up.

7.1 million viewers? Is that what NBC already had on mind when they said good bye to the show?

Most importantly, what are NBC's ratings for TWO things

1) The show that replaced Medium on NBC (original time slot)

AND

2) Ratings for Medium vs 8pm Friday nights on NBC?

Heck, I'll even add in

3) What about other possible time slots if CBS is so sure there's no point in continuing the show?
(Or sister networks...??? CW perhaps?)

NO!
It actually spun into a real soap opera feeling, leaving us high and dry (so far) wondering who the new mayor will be... (you really have to be a viewer of the show to best understand how and why that makes the show more interesting...)

Going the soap opera route could surely kill a show. WEEDS was interesting when it first started but it has turned into a soap opera also.

CBS is going strong. They had to get rid of something. I would guess the show has been trending down. As you say it may not be the end, there's always the CW.

Same deal with the Ghost Whisperer, which had even stronger numbers. The ratings bar at CBS is set higher, so some decent shows get cancelled.

Let me state, for the record, that Medium was never one of my favorite shows, but my wife liked it so I had to watch it. ::)

IMHO I think both Medium, and Ghost Whisperer, just ran out of ideas after while. Granted it would have been interesting to see if Allison's boss (the DA) won the race for Mayor, but otherwise it would have been the same script over and over again. The Medium has a dream, she helps the cops find the killer, meanwhile her husband never gets a good night's sleep.

At one point he also lost his job. That was a good plot. Now we want to see if Allison will still have a job.
By the looks of things, the show could easily end with the new Mayor being someone new and a crime specialist that has no use for a Psychic.
(I'd also suggest a new psychic that tries to replace Allison, but I think there was already a new psychic that turned out to be fake...)

Haley Joel Osment ruint Medium's basic premise years ago. Ruint, I say!
When viewers see the word "Medium" they want someone to talk to the dead, or else they are trying on clothes. Maybe they could combine those two plotlines somehow?

I think it was kind of odd that even though they cancelled medium the star of the show Patrica Arquette (sic) was a guest on CBS's "THE TALK" this afternoon.

It's canceled but not terminated. There's still room to promote what's left of the season.

Arquette was quoted as saying that there are just two more episodes of the show that will air then it is gone. Personally I highly doubt any cable network will pick up the series. It has run its course. ABC was considering airing Ghost Whisperer but network executives decided not to.

Two more episodes? Does it go into reruns or does it vanish all together?

According to the article the show disappears. So Medium has just two more weeks for viewers to find out if the DA becomes mayor and what happens to Allison. It's very unlikely, although possible, that the next two episodes could be redone so that there is a finale' to the show. Or then again just air what's already been shot and let the show keep viewers hanging, as most cancelled shows do.

But with 7.1 million viewers, does that mean repeats after two weeks?
Or does that mean there is a possible 8 million viewer show CBS has on mind for Friday nights in Medium's place? (or perhaps a 7 million viewer show that costs less to produce...?)
