Medium Market

Around 1986-87 WCVQ Clarksville was a level 3 reporter (adult contemporary) to Radio & Records Magazine. I think level 3 was equal to middle market size.

well nashville has told me that they are a large market and i need to go to a medium market before i try for large market. i've worked for a small market in kentucky for 10 years.

Size depends on who you ask, as it varies a bit. Generally it seems the most accepted model around here is major market (1-20), large market (21-50), medium market (51-100), and small market (101+). However, RadioInk, which has a lot of clout, says it's major market (1-10), large market (11-30), medium market (31-100), and small market (101+). When Clear Channel decided to sell off small markets, they considered small markets to be about 111+. (Nashville, of course, is #44.)

So, why leave? The myth is that great talent rises to the big markets....some truth. Usually its local people on the air and behind the scenes. No moving fees, and they know the market. Not having heard your stuff...maybe you sound small market and should work on your stuff to get better. One more thing for what it is worth..pick a market you like and relate too. If you were to try and get in say Columbus, Ohio and you dont dig Buckeye Sports...your in da wrong town.

sexyback... send me your email address and i will send you some of my radio work and you can critique if you would like.
