Medium to Large market stations without websites?

I am glad you brought this topic up.

There are too many stations (radio and television) that have no web presence. No website...no social network page...nothing.

I can understand if some prefer a social network page like Facebook instead of a website. But to have no web presence?

:-[

I'll stop ranting now...

Is there any evidence that stations that have a web presence get more listeners than those that don't?

This is interesting, and the stations are easy to find. Go to radio-locator and type in the name of a market. Don't adjust it to "Local" or "Fringe"; just type it in and see which call letters on the list have black letters (no link to the station). I did the first few markets:

Commercial Stations With No Websites (at least ones that Radio-Locator recognizes):

1. New York: FM - (none); AM - WSNR/620 Jersey City - Format: Ethnic, WZRC/1480 New York, NY - Format: Asian, WWRU/1660 Jerssey City - Format: Spanish.

Worth - Format: Spanish, KMNY/1360 Hurst - Format: Spanish, KGVL/1400 Greenville - Format: Oldies, KJIM/1500 Sherman - Format: Nostalgia, KZMP/1540 University Park - Format: Spanish, KRVA/1600 Cockrell Hill - Format: Asian.

7. Washington-Baltimore (I typed "Laurel, MD".): FM - (none); AM - WDMV/700 Walkersville, MD - Format: Spanish, WWFD/820 Frederick, MD - Format: Variety, WCRW/1190 Leesburg, VA - Format: Asian, WYCB/1340 Washington - Format: Gospel Music, WFBR/1590 Glen Burnie, MD - Format: Rhythmic Oldies, WLXE/1600 Rockville, MD - Format: Spanish.

OK. My time on Radio-Locator expired for the day. Anybody want to complete the top 10 by providing info for Philly, Atlanta and Boston?

Seems like two major trends are in work here. Most stations with no websites (1) have COL's in suburbs, and (2) are foreign language (even when you take out the Tijuana stations in LA). I guess the Spanish and Asian stations don't see a big need for websites at this time, but I'm sure someone else could enlighten us more on this topic.

It's worth noting that much of the information about station websites (or lack of them) is incorrect. I've found several instances of outdated sites or just wrong listings, along with sites being promoted on air but not shown in Radio-Locator listings.

In Dallas/Fort Worth, for example, there really are websites for KFCD 990 (www.kfcd990.com/) and KFXR 1190 (www.dfw1190am.com/). KZMP 1540 is an ESPN Deportes affiliate and while the station may not have a website itself, the national website probably should appear in their listing. Likewise in Houston, both KYND and KGBC air programming from China Radio International, which is easily accessed on the web.

Just as Radio-Locator's format listings are often outdated, misleading or incomplete (as in showing "Spanish" for any format in that language), websites for many of the stations in the list above really do exist. I'll admit, however, that it takes some digging (or listening) to find some of those sites.

You are correct, and your post was expected. that's why I named the quick list I made, "Commercial Stations With No Websites (at least ones that Radio-Locator recognizes):" I didn't expect it to be totally accurate, but it is a starting point to recognize a pattern. And, I'm glad you were able to do some "digging". ;)

And, while I realize it maybe a little "flawed", I'm anal enough to complete the list. It's a new day:

8. Philadelphia: FM - (none); AM - WEMG/1310 Camden, NJ - Format: Spanish, WHAT1340 Philadelphia - Format: Spanish, WTTM/1680 Lindenwold, NJ - Format: Spanish

9. Atlanta: FM - (none); AM - WJTP/890 - Lithia Springs - Format: Asian, WPBC/1310 Decatur - Format: Spanish, WIFN/1340 Atlanta - Format: Sports

10. Boston: FM - (none); AM - WSJW/550 Pawtucket, RI - Format: Religious, WILD/1090 Boston - Format: Asian, WLYN/1360 Lynn, MA - Format: Ethnic, WMSX/1410 Brockton, MA - Format: Christian Contemporary, WAZN/1470 Watertown, MA - Format: Spanish

That's it. Not really much change in the pattern.

In the Ludington, MI radio market (unrated), four of the seven stations based in the market have websites (and only one of them stream)
Have websites: 94.1 WWKR, 97.7 WMLQ, 98.7 WLDN (just launched), 102.7 WMOM
Don't have websites: 94.9 WKZC, 106.3 WKLA, 1450 WKLA

In Traverse City (#192), rimshot 100.1 WCUZ doesn't have a website.
