I'm guessing Citibank didn't do much research when deciding to name a new PD after firing Bruce St. James because I wouldn't say she's exactly what would be considered potential PD material?

Do you think you would ever find pictures of this city's top Rhy PD's like Mark Medina or Byron Kennedy exposing handguns?

I'd say, from viewing her pictures on www.myspace.com/karliehustle and www.twitter.com/karliehustle that she's more warlord then PD material.

Really?!? We don't believe that people have a right to defend themselves with a LEGAL weapon?!? I am really tired of the anti-self defense crowd. They think we should ask someone nicely to let us call 9-1-1 in the middle of attack?!? ::)

A woman with a gun is less of a target...

Uh, by the way, can't speak for Mark, but Byron Kennedy bought a TANK for Party Radio @ 103.9 with the plan to drive it to Colorado and circle around Columbine High School...

So Karlie Hustle is the PD there now? Man how things change. Remember when call letters like KDKB - KZZP - KOY - KRIZ etc., were the dominant stations here?....YEa, I know I'm old - but EVERYTHING changes.

[EDIT] They are photographs. It's art. It's not photographic evidence of her committing a crime. And since when can one judge a person's ability and skills from viewing a photograph? Get a life.

[EDIT-inflammatory]

I have a good feeling about giving her a chance... but only time will tell. Always thought she was one of the best, and I'm glad I wasn't alone with this thought. Just never thought this would happen.
Wishing ONLY the best to come with this move.

Sadly, I'm afraid she is only going to be keeping the seat warm. Same for Tim Virgin. When the new owners take control (post bank), I imagine they will likely be gone as well as their formats. I'm not sure who would buy those stations and keep the formats intact. That said, there's always a sucker who says "I can make it work." Just look at the buyer of just about any buyer of an AM station.

I knew someone would have something to say on this. Really, I cannot rebuttal or make any come back based on facts because the reality of the situation is that I do not know Karlie personally or anything about her track record or PD experience. I can only speak based purely on feeling, wishful thinking, and possibility.. in other words, since she's one of my favorite on-airs, I wish her the best.

I say I have good feeling about giving her a chance, but this is just an (my) opinion in it's purest form, based on no facts at all. However, noshow's opinion is constructed more from a logical and sensible point of view, which may also turn to become accurate within the relatively near future.

Good luck to her, either way.

I really do think it's good news, for the other stations! When she's sending out text saying thanks on the well wishes, just don't know how long it's going to last? that is not a good, strong statement. Bruce St. James would never send a "well we'll see how it goes" Email. I do not think she has the experience nor the knowledge to compete with Medina nor Bryon. Her whole staff is actively looking for a new job right under her nose (morning show in california for vacation?) right. She was dealt a horrible hand and she'll lose.

By the way, just looked at the pics. Those are nothing new to me - I've seen them before and that isn't really a determining factor on whether or not she is good material for any professional position. I could take pictures like this too, but it would not decrease any skills I have for any particular position. Well.... just remember this is the year of change. Remember the amount of people who don't think Obama had the experience, but still voted based mostly on what looks and sounds good, in addition to being spiteful to the Bush administration and republican party. If we can run a country on trial and error and hope for the best, I guess we could do the same thing with radio (and I say this as an African American, so that automatically washes out any "I must be a racist / must have said that for some reason"...etc type stuff people love to use when they see or hear something they don't want to know or agree with).

Anyway, bottom line, people are going to try to do the best they can do with the knowledge they have, and we can only wait and see what happens in the end. The weak signal strength may not be a good thing to start out with, but still, anything could happen. Yes I love KZON, but I still hope the best for her at her station as well.

Anyone landing a PD gig at this point in radio, needs to be congratulated! So, bravo to you new PD. However looks like you might be dealing with may defectors. In LA where I usually follow and post, I know from various peoples who love to give information, that Joey Boy continues to met with Big Bear @ Q104.7/Oxnard about even coming back to Oxnard as PD/MD and doing the AM show by himself. I'm also hearing that Sandra Pena from Latino in LA is pushing for her and Joey to do the AM show there since they just recently fired Chuy.

Also, I'm not too sure (because reading other post it looks that Power/Phoenix is going through some firings) but I thought "The Nutz" already have a female sidekick named La?

And speaking of "The Nutz" wasn't there another Nut? I thought the krazy kidz (Joey and Johnny) moved to Phoenix together as "The Nutz" now from what I heard streaming online he is doing the show solo, minus the other nut. Can someone please fill me in because I feel I am missing something? I was under the impression The Nutz were two guys and now it appears Joey is looking for a new home solo. Plus I thought they had a female member and now I see he is trying to do something with a radio host already in LA?

Joey Boy must really dislikes his show mates because looks as though he is eager to move on without them. Can somebody please explain?

I don't know much about the show dynamics, but Johnny was let go some time last year. Cost cutting by Riviera as I recall. Lady La was the sidekick to the "Nutz", but has since evolved into the second Nut.

Uh, by the way, can't speak for Mark, but Byron Kennedy bought a TANK for Party Radio @ 103.9 with the plan to drive it to Colorado and circle around Columbine High School...

That was never the plan. The plan was to drive it down Scottsdale and get on the news, which is exactly what happened. Stop posting crap that you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

I do know what I am talking about. The idea was shot down (no pun intended). I was simply making the point that if a station can own a tank, why can't a woman carry a perfectly legal handgun?

The dynamics of the KKFR AM show is something that should be played out on www.thedirty.com because I hear many different things from the remaining show members regarding the NUTZ.

I was still there after Johnny was let go and had conversations with all of them about what happened to the all-powerful Nutz. According to what Joey Boy has broadcast among fellow radio folks including myself, it had more to do with show differences then cost cutting. He told me specifically that if it wasn't for La, Johnny would still be there! So I don't know if the "cost cutting" theory passes the smell test.

La, I know (because I witnessed it while there) was very devastated that one of her mentors in radio was canned. She still to this day, from what I understand, is upset by the harshness of the split. When I asked her what happened she said she had no idea, it just happened and that Joey had told her to "get over it and move on!" She also said she was having a hard time pretending that he "never existed" as the other Nut suggested.

Johnny, I have seen a few times since. He says he talks and text with La once in a while, I think he mentioned his family took her to dinner for her Birthday but when I asked if he had talked to Joey Boy he said "not at all" and left it at that. I would love to hear his side of the story, but he's pretty quite and doesn't speak on the situation from what I've heard from others.

Personally, even though I'm with a diffrent station now, it was sad to see this situation unfold. I witnessed the Nutz at the top and watched as it was torn down early this year.

On another note,

Good luck Karlie!

Wow conversation all over the road here a perfect chain link if your old school radio you know what I am saying, I wanna say:
Congrats to Ms K. Hustle Kick some A$$ as P.D.
&
Damn I wanted to drive the Tank down Scottsdale rd also and Byron (Hater) didn't let me :) I guess I really didn't need Scottsdale P.D. pulling me over in it also! Those were fun crazy days.

Thank you for the well wishes and other fodder. I LOVE the attention. Keep the rumors swirling under fake screen names and I'll be sure to keep your tongues wagging with my next photo shoot.

It's very odd that many people who appear to adore radio enough to participate in a site about it are so bitter, hateful and obsessed with negativity. I'm not here to contribute to it. I probably will not post again after today. I'm just here to show you that you can actually sign up under your real name and post real thoughts without hiding behind a fake persona.

:)

Remember, what you put out into the world, you're likely to get back. Everyone have a blessed weekend and be mindful of what's really important--the majority of which will not be found on a site like this.

Respect.

...Bottom line is this:

She knows what she's doing and has been doing her job well, and I'm sure she will continue to do her best with whatever the future has in store for her. Whether or not KKFR remains successful really doesn't matter because when you look at the big picture, there are plenty of other places where good talent can be used. KKFR is just a time, place, and opportunity that's open right now. As a matter of fact, although I never brought it up, there are other places on the dial I'd love to hear her as well.

The fact of life is things change, and regardless of radio station, format, desired format, preferred/favorite station...etc., I'm sure overall that everyone in any business does the best they can at any given time with the knowledge they have for any position. You can never satisfy everyone, and there will always be people to agree and disagree, but you can only try your best to give all your best to those who will appreciate with the opportunity and circumstances provided.

Hypothesizing can be great, but the fact is this: She will do what she does.
