Meet the Press on Sundays

Anyone know why WJAR airs Meet the Press at 10:00 AM while WBTS airs it at 10:30 AM on Sundays? I find it odd that the NBC O&O, serving a larger market, would air it at a later time (and at the "bottom" of the hour) vs. a smaller TV market.

More local news, that's why.

It's available at least as early as 9 AM ET - that's when we get it on WHEC in Rochester.

Because its live at 9:00 a.m. ET. I just realized this is one of my favorite radio dudes, Mr. Scott Fybush.

But yeah, its live that early. One example on the other hand is my WTVJ Miami where its aired at 10:00 a.m. ET after their Sunday morning news plus Impact with Jackie Nespral.

Has it ever cleared the country at 9 am? I've never seen it that early. It's always been 10:30.

Yes and its called now.

How much of the country airs it at 9 am.

Live? Let me see...

WLBZ, WAGT, WHEC, WGRZ, WVIR, WIS, WESH, WDTN, KBJR, KTVE, WETM, WFIE and WMBF are just some of the NBC affiliates that do air it live.

I wonder if they rate badly against CBS Sunday Morning, so they time shift MTP.

I think in most cases, the NBC stations are running local news against Sunday Morning.

Sort of how they all try to run the national evening news shows at the same time.

No, they don't. Its just NBC offering affiliates with more flexible options, as they wish. Some air it live while others are tape-delayed to air more local Sunday morning news.

KING Seattle airs NBC's Sunday morning programming live: Sunday Today at 5 a.m. PT, Meet The Press at 6 a.m. PT.

Yeah, WBTS-CD airs "Meet the Press" at 10:30 a.m. because they need 90 minutes for local news at 9 a.m. They don't give a damn about the national picture on Sunday morning, other than "Sunday Today" at 8 a.m.

Yes, MTP is done live at 9:00 AM ET--but for years it has aired at 10:30 AM ET in both NYC and Washington.

One has to wonder if NBC has an "arrangement" with all those slimy dudes and dudettes in Congress to air the show at 10:30 in those two "real important" markets so they all can get home after the live show ends at 9:59--and watch themselves on the air at 10:30.

The decision when the show is aired is made by the local stations, not the network. There are some guests who've done MTP first because it's early, then driven over to one of the other nets to make an additional appearance.
