David is it true KLOL is once again back to leading the Spanish stations? I've read your recent posts about your stations having knocked off KLOL from the top position. What happened? Not only 18-34 but 12+? But again you will have a good reason - excuse - for this right?

Three stations versus KLOL and you can't keep the top spot ;D ;D ;D

Wow David Gleason I can't believe you are speechless. No smart response from the expert? It's not everyday you keep your big mouth shut. I kinda like it that way. ::)

If you ask me, KLOL should be doing way better than it is now. You have to remember that KAMA is signal handicapped and KLOL is a full Mo. City stick. This should clearly give KLOL the clear advantage. Don't look at this as Clear Channel's Victory, but as Univision's Long Term Victory as the only reason KAMA is here is to take a bite at KLOL's Ratings and revenue. Shure, it hasn't topped it off it's high horse, but I'll give it a couple more weeks to see KLOL finally fall behind KLTN.

What makes you think the new buyer will flip a succesful station? If the station is also billing well odds are the format will stay as is.

What makes you think they won't? I remember when #1 KILT bought #2 KIKK. No time was wasted in dismantling KIKK. This was a major mistake as it allowed KKBQ to make inroads into the country audience. I have seen it over and over, new management or new owners come in and look you in the face and say, "Don't worry. This station is doing really good. We aren't going to change it in any way. We may do a little fine-tuning, but we won't change it." The next thing you know, the fine tuning becomes the overhaul of the station and you are looking for the next gig.

I understand that the station might flip but too many on this board believe a flip is going to happen. Nobody knows who the buyer is or if CC plans to trade it for another station in another market.

The question is, with a mainstream format, could you make the station MORE successful? Certainly.

A format has to fit into the station owner's overall portfolio within the market, and as a group owner nationally. The Univision and Liberman clusters in Houston are doing a good job of targeting Hispanics in the market, as they can do combination sales, or offer particular demographic slices to advertisers who want to reach that audience. As part of CC, the Mega format offered another sales option amongst their stations here.

However Mega might have trouble as a stand-alone, or as part of a two station group for an owner that is new to the market, as it may not fit into any sales strategy for a small group. A good example of this was Radio One's misfire with La Mera Mera, which didn't fit in with Majic and The Box.

I think there are other possibilities that might be more attractive than battling Univision or Liberman.

It all depends on how the station is doing when the sale goes through, who buys it, and whether it is cash flowing, etc.

saradio, let's be honest. Those involved in the industry have seen it time and time again. The insider opinion is KLOL will flip. Most of those that are merely listeners to the Houston airwaves yearn for the re-birth of KLOL as, at the very least, an English format considering that KLOL had never ever been associated with anything but rock-n-roll before November 12, 2004. A good portion of posters that grace this board are in the age bracket that knew nothing else but KLOL as Rock 101 or 101 KLOL. I am included in that bracket, as well. It would be like you in San Antonio losing long-time Top 40 powerhouse 102.7 KTFM. Ah....yes. You DO know how it feels to lose some of your heritage.

Yep, gonna be flipped like a charred flapjack on Pat Fant's grill!

Wager anyone?

Although a few of us still have fuzzy memories of KTRH-FM.
