Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Mega 98 is broadcasting above their FCC limits. Does anyone else think this is happening?

What limits?
1) Modulation? (loudness/freq. deviation
2) Power? (ERP=effective radiated power)
It's probably nearly impossible to tell if its over ERP power without reading a meter on the transmitter's output. Changes in transmitter output have less effect than you would think. A huge difference between 1kW and 20kW, but not a big difference betwen 30-50kW, 70-100kW, etc. The FCC's rules allow operation at 105% licensed power. That could be 5kW extra power for a 100kW station!
There would be very little motivation or benefit to over power an FM broadcast.

As I recall, when 95.7 first went on the air, they also broadcast from the channel six tower, and then downgraded to a wimpy C-2 in order to move their transmitter to downtown Miami and and to avoid interfering with 95.5 in Ft. Pierce. Also, 95.7 required then WCJX 96.3 to move to 96.5.
I still don't understand why someone doesn't put up a 1,500' master antenna in Dade County -- that would provide much better coverage from Jupiter to the Keys.

Reasons: Second-adjacent channel interference (102.7 and 102.3, 101.5 and WHLG on 101.3 in Saint Lucie, as well as same-channel interference (WMXJ/Pompano Beach and WHKR/Rockledge-Titusville on 102.7, WHYI/Ft. Lauderdale and WMTX/Tampa on 100.7, etc etc.).
Antenna farm in N. Dade's at 1100', I think....
