Mega - Al Fuentes GONE

> RIP. "Wish him luck in his future endeavors..."

Is "La Preciosa 101" next? See KEGL in DFW.

Unless Radio One beats them to the punch with a KROI relaunch in that direction.

This, if true, supports the talk that they are switching format very soon, maybe as ssoon as this Thanksgiving weekend, due to the ratings slump and the inability to get revenue in gear. Look for La Preciosa if this happens.

Hey, where are you Clear Answer?

David, I have a question for you. What exactly do you do? I mean I know your job title, but what does that entail? I am not asking to be mean or spiteful, I am just curious because you seem to post on pretty much every board on here daily. To me, you are either the most multi-tasking S.O.B. out there or you have an over abundance of spare time on your hands.

I suspect David's wireless laptop gets a workout wherever he goes. You'll notice his profile gives location as "airline terminals."

Would make sense, since that's what CC did in DFW with KEGL. Seems to be different enought from the various Univision and Liberman formats here to get noticed. But will it sell any better than Mega?

Will state again that a Preciosa clone might be a better fit for KROI, should Radio One want to stick with their Hispanic initiative.

La Preciosa, in Dallas, is positiolned to be #1 Spanish station in Fall book, and may be #1 in the market, with a core that is aobut 40% 25-34, and then filled out by 35-44 and 45-54. It is mostly a 25-44 station, with easy to sell demos.

Not likely from those folks. Just lost PD who got tired of them, and no one good would work there.

I travel a lot doing research and progamming and training, and this is my amusement in airports, cabs and hotel rooms. I am a radio groupie who just happens to work in radio.

Are Clear Channel's Hurban stations doing well anywhere? KLOL is clearly struggling. Albuquerque appears to be doing better than the station it replaced, at least in 12+ ratings, but Mega 104.1 is still a bottom feeder. Mega 95.7 in Denver has only had one book if that, but it looks like the Hurban format is making the low-rated CHR it replaced look like a smash hit. In Miami, the Hurban station is lower middle class in 12+ ratings and not doing significantly better than the station it replaced. Do you see these stations remaining Hurban and trying to give the format some time to grow, or do you see them giving way to La Preciosa, or some other format, rather quickly? Do you think this format has a future in the continental United States?

> Are Clear Channel's Hurban stations doing well anywhere?

Only in Miami. Houston has a hung jury... were the very low August and September individual months something of Arbitron, or is the format in trouble?

Albuquerque is not huge, but adequate, same Denver. The problem is that the format skews young, and the Clear Channel mostly English approach is mostly`12-24.

At issue is the fact that there are literally no teen and 18-24 Hispanic buys. Most are 18=49 or 25-54.

It is reported billing only 25% of the format it replaced, and losing money. It is 18=34 leader in Miami, yet Miami is the most mature Hispanic community in the US, so there is not much revenue there.

In NY, Kalle is #1 18-34 in the last month of Summer and the first month of Winter. Kalle in Las Vegas is #2 Spanish in September. In Fresno and San Jose, the two Kalle stations are higher than when in pop and regional formats.

I'm very surprised the fans of former Rock 101 ain't beating this to death about how CC screwed up and this is the proof where their property of a year ago was looking like a bonanza for them (after the flip) is now looking like flip potential itself in Houston.

Isn't part of the initial bump in Mega's ratings from the curiousity of what replaced a legacy station's format? And when a legacy format is replaced, isn't the one following it usually short lived in comparison?

If CC were to switch to La Preciosa on 101, what makes you think that it would last any longer than Mega, and why? Doesn't part of the sucess depend on market saturation for this type of format and wouldn't it be dependent on what KROI does?

Rock 101 and Mega probably don't share much of the same audience, so no.

As for "replacing" a legacy station, KODA was beautiful music for years, but Sunny certainly hasn't been short-lived.
______________

I'm just surprised that you can get much of a signal in a cab. My experience with my Treo is once you start moving, the download speed goes to crap.
______________

In a word, no. First, a heritage ofr legacy station must have a big audience to create curiousity about its passing. KLOL was not dead, but certainly in the doldrums.

Because the format is missing form Houston, and it is a format proven to last, such as 6 years with the same ratings in LA, the most competitive Hispanic market in the US.

Mega put on an unproven format, at least as far as the continental US is concerned. Preciosa is Jack in Spanish, insofar as broadness of playlist and genres. It has lots of good music, and no competiton.

There is no saturation, and KROI is the only Spanish staiton in Radio One's group... they obviously are clueless.

I have both the Sprint and Verizon wireless internet cards as well. The new higher speed Sprint is fabulous, until I go to McAllen, where it does not work at all. That's in additon to the Treo!
