Mega changes?????

The only thing I can add to this thread is that my personal hope for the station is with a change in imaging, comes a change in calls as well. If it ain't rock, it doesn't belong on KLOL. Hopefully other operators would remember the heritage that went with those 4 letters, because it certainly isn't Clear Channel. However, I won't hold my breath.

Sadly, you can't expect some to respect the heritage. They have no connection to it and no interest in the history of it. To them, it is a novelty to be consumed, sold or re-imaged.

I hear Mega is going all tropical - does anybody know anything? Is there a hole in the market for that?

Tropical would be a much better format in Miami or San Antonio. It does pretty good in the Puerto Rico book too.

There are two kinds of tripopical played in the US, one being Caribbean tropical which is mostly salsa with a little merengue and bachata. The other is Mexican tropical which is cumbia-based.

KLTN plays a high percentage of Mexican triopical. Nobody in the US outside of markets with lots of Caribbean origin folks plays the other.

Any form of tropical would do horribly in San Antonio. There is zero audience for Caribbean tropical, and since the Hispanic market is so assimilated Mexican tropical qould bom in SA. In LA, the Mexican tropical staiton, KLYY, gets about a 1.5 share in a market with over 25 shares for spanish language stations.

I think this silly rumor started because the new PD comes from a tropical station in Boston.

Does this mean another format shift (after the recent playlist changes) or is this a rebranding to better promote the changes already in place?

There are more rumors about this than there were Jack detractors last year in NYC.

Version one, Clear is launching a regional format in multiple markets called La Mejor. Is Houston one of the markets? Looks like Dallas may be.

Version two: Mega is going to be renamed in Houston, with msuic adjustments to make it more 18-35 than 12-24 in focus. This one is losing some credibility, as the guy from Dallas who was going to do it was let go last week. But the new PD has more pop / rhythmic experience, and certainly no regional expeerience.

ok let me put some rumors to rest! it will not be called La Mejor.... David your quick to say things that you cant prove buddy ''LET GO''?? You sure about that one? The station will not be Regional Mexican Since cc Clearly has no clue on how to Program a Regional Mexican station Hint(El Patron) in Atlanta. The funny thing David is how raul brindis is trying to sell his show to another Houston station because he wants out of Univision hmmm..... O yeah and even Arnulfo came asking for a job at cc!

Hey Dallas has a station from Clear Channel called La Preciosa or La Picuda well something like that and its pretty good. And yes I remember when Raul and the rest of the guys had soccer games with Telemundo, Estereo Latino and Telemundo had a good relationship. And also I dont see a reason why Clear Channel should change the name of the station. All they need to do is change the format. Like Saturday I was listening to it and they played Kumbia Kings, Selena, La Mafia and more good songs. So all they need is a format change not a name change.

La Preciosa is a copy of the Univision Recuerdo format. It got decimated in the last book and the latest trends by the original Recuerdo in Dallas. So much so that the local talent was taken of the air and the local PD let go.

La Picuda is a Univision hard-core regional Mexican station. It has about 0% similarity with La Preciosa.

Clear Channel has more problems in Spanish language radio than the name of a staiton in Houston.

I would say that I hope so, but CC doesn't know how to program English stations in this market. Well they did with Majic 102 and The Box, but then they "gave" them to Radio Uggh! And, now they just have a cluster of mediocre stations with below average talent (with the exception of Dean & Rog and Colonel St. James, who should be full time in afternoon drive instead of Fixx, who helped in the demise of KLOL).
