MEGA IS NOW PLAYING ON 102.7

What's Mega? So far as of 12:52PM, same type format, same promo ID for Jack FM.

Sorry, should have pointed out its in Austin. Its a top 40/dance format.

102.7 in Austin is a low power translator which is now being fed by the HD2 feed from 103.5.

Austin has quite a few translators on channels where San Antonio has full power stations: 89.1, 95.1, 98.5, 102.7, 105.3, 106.7. But I think Austin's 105.3 went off the air because they were getting overrun by Magic in SA.

That even had me confused. I was thinking 102.7 in San Antonio.

Maybe a reason, though small, to separate the San Antonio and Austin boards.

All there new Austin translators have come on the air in the last few years or so. Why so many translator in Austin? Is it all those hills in Austin?

None of the translators rebroadcasts a local FM broadcast station, unless you consider Thorndale local.

89.1 carries Calvary Radio from Twin Falls, Idaho
95.1 carries KTXZ-AM
97.1 carries KTXX-HD2 (Spanish Regional mostly "Fiesta Internacional" from Mex.)
98.5 carries rim shot KLGO, a class A licensed to Thorndale
99.7 carries KLBJ-AM
99.9 is a locally programmed LPFM in Dripping Springs
102.7 was carrying KOKE-AM, now carrying KBPA-HD2
106.5 carries KTXX-HD3 (local Spanish Christian)
106.7 LPFM in Georgetown airs Contemporary Christian

Has KOKE AM flipped as well? or it's just 102.7 that flipped. The reason why I ask is because I don't have antenna inputs connected for AM, yet.

I wonder if they can flip a translator in San Antonio to Mega as well. One of the Holy Roller stations ie 93.3 would be an ideal translator to flip to Mega. (That's 93.3 San Antonio translator, not KGSR Austin I am talking about)

Correction I meant 93.7 K229BJ not 93.3.

Emmis bought the Austin 102.7 translator and is feeding it an HD2 signal.
Is anyone in SA doing the format on HD2 and do they own a translator?

has K274AX 102.7 (Mega's official translator) upgraded their ERP yet?

According to the FCC database and radio-locator.com, the class D translator has a construction permit to upgrade the signal from 75 watts to 250 watts, as well as an increase in the HAAT.

Has this taken place yet? Because 102.7 still seems to have a mediocre signal south of Slaughter Ln. I don't know about North Austin yet......

I wondered how the 105.3 translator was going to work out with Majic in San antonio.

This is exactly why the 105.3 translator in Austin went off the air, because of some Austin area listeners complaints ofco-channel interference it was causing to Magic 105.3 in SA.

From the FCC application files for K287AY at 105.3 in Austin:

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...t=25&appn=101398599&formid=349&fac_num=156299

K287AY BEGAN OPERATION IN LATE APRIL 2010 (LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO). SINCE THAT TIME IT HAS RECEIVED SEVERAL INTERFERENCE COMPLAINTS (SEE 14 COMPLAINTS ATTACHED) FROM LOCAL RESIDENTS OF AUSTIN CONCERNING THE FACT THAT THEY ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO LISTEN TO THE DISTANT CO-CHANNEL SIGNAL OF KSMG ON CH. 287C AT SEGUIN, TX ( NEAR SAN ANTONIO). KSMG IS LOCATED 124.5 KM (77 MILES) AWAY ON A BEARING OF N-201-E FROM AUSTIN.

KSMG'S LICENSED FACILITIES OPERATE WITH AN ERP OF 100 KW AT AN HAAT OF 453 M WHICH THEORETICALLY PLACE A 43.5 DBU (0.15 MV/M) CONTOUR AT THE TRANSLATOR'S SITE. A LONGLEY-RICE ANALYSIS OF THE KSMG FACILITY INDICATES THAT THE SIGNAL LEVEL IN THE AUSTIN AREA VARIES FROM 30 TO 50 DBU WITH PORTIONS OF THE CITY LESS THAN 30 DBU (0.032 MV/M).

IN 2003, WHEN THE TRANSLATOR WINDOW OPENED, KSMG WAS OPERATING WITH ITS 1987 LICENSE FACILITIES WHICH WERE AT THE SAME SITE & SAME ERP BUT IT ONLY HAD AN HAAT OF 381 M (72 M SMALLER) WHICH THEORETICALLY REDUCED ITS SIGNAL LEVELS BY 3-4 DB THROUGHOUT THE AUSTIN AREA.

AS OF 5/07/2010, OPERATION BY THE TRANSLATOR HAS BEEN SUSPENDED PENDING RESOLUTION OF THIS INTERFERENCE ISSUE.

THE ONLY GUARANTEED WAY TO ELIMINATE THIS TYPE OF CO-CHANNEL INTERFERENCE IS BY A CHANGE IN FREQUENCY. A SEARCH FROM THE TRANSLATOR SITE INDICATES THAT NO CHANNEL WITHIN +-3 OR +-53/54 WILL COMPLY WITH THE FCC'S INTERFERENCE RULES. HOWEVER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT CH. 242 (-45 CHANNELS) WILL COMPLY WITH ALL INTERFERENCE RULES AND A LISTENING CHECK IN THE AUSTIN AREA DOES NOT INDICATE ANY STATION IS CURRENTLY RECEIVABLE.

Clear Channel could buy a translator 93.7 and flip that to KXXM-HD2. I don't know if they would have to spin a station off to do this, but if they had to, it would be 92.5

KLTO 97.7 is a full power station. Unfortunately it's tower is almost halfway to Victoria. The HD2 presence on 98.5 is intended to improve its San Antonio listenability.

I think KLTO is more clear at Victoria than San antonio. I was able to pick it up most places around in Victoria with out much problem.

fredcantu said:
Don't forget KLTO started off as little KQRO-FM licensed to Cuero.

KVCQ was another call letter, they use to simulcast Texas thunder radio KTXM Hallsville.
