with the mega giving away a HALF BILLION dollars as the
jackpot, and your one time payday being about 350 million,

would any one use that to shake up the rochester
or buffalo radio dial ???? Includes the fringe markets
like springville, batavia, niagara falls (etc)...

I know "star 102.5" wouldn't be "for sale" but
maybe a few AM locals? and winning that much,
you could rival over paying like entercomm did
for "WNSA" ( LOL)
 
With a fraction of that amount you can purchase an entire frontline cluster (Clear Channel or Entercom in Rochester, Entercom or Cumulus in Buffalo) and have truckloads of cash left over. Or you could buy one and add a full power major network TV affiliate. You'd still have plenty of money to run the place, program all your stations well, and market them, while you build up your revenue base.

But would you WANT to? Or would sitting back on the beach and enjoying your cash, with a radio gig in a format you enjoy in a town you like just to keep your hand in and keep yourself amused, be more like it?
 
There's an island in the Caribbean I'd like to buy. After I buy it, maybe, maybe I'll build the radio station. That might work. But people will have to pay me to work there. Heh, heh. After all, it's a Caribbean island. BTW, the chance of winning the Mega Millions is 1 in 175,711,536. I hear Starship's "Miracles" playing somewhere. Or is that Dusty Springfield's "Wishin' and Hopin'?"
 
If I won, I would definately buy a station. I'd have to think about which one, or what format would work best, keep me happy and be profitable, not that with the money I had, I'd really NEED it to be a money maker.
 
If I won the first thing I will do (or have to do) is hand the check over to the wife.
As for buying a radio station: No thank you!

However I wonder if I did win $500 million dollars if my former employer would call me and ask for a donation?
 
I have to admit that I'd have an urge to buy an FM with a decent signal, hire the good guys in programming and sales that I've worked with in the past, and let them blast away at the corporate competition. My guess is that nobody would go hungry, and local radio would get to be a lot more interesting.

All I can tell you if I should win (& I did buy two tickets to double the odds), I will start the The REALJM Broadcastng Co. Among the first 50 or so phone calls I'll make ( after one to the ex wife -think Nelson HA! HA!) will be to Jim Pastrick. Let him handle all the headaches while I'm in Tahiti looking at naked native girls.

Heh, heh... I'm gonna spend your money like Milhouse and Bart on an All Syrup Super Squishy bender.
 
One of the Canadian newscasts in Toronto went to bars and lines for two quick seconds...then when they came back the news reporter said "Folks, that's what you'll be watching on this station if I win the Mega American lottery..." :D Too funny!!!

I like the idea of owning a radio station or two, but a nice break on the beach in some far off place for a bit FIRST does sound really nice!
