MEL KARMAZIN is the anitchrist

Ole Melvin couldn't just fire 50% of Sirius and 50% of XM music staffs, it appears that he fired 85% of XM's music staff!
I talked to a decades channel PD, and he indicated that almost all the XM music talent is gone by the end of the month.
Not fair to XM subs as this is not a merger, but instead a take-over of XM; Mel lied to the FCC.

So I know my decade channel is toast; next question is if Mel kept any XM niche channels like Escape, Cinemagic and Fine Tuning?
If those go, so do my 3 subs and all radio listening will be done for me.

I get a really bad feeling that I'll be selling 3 XM radios on eBay in November :(

supposedly speculative, but here's a list of channels that are staying (I'm noting Fine Tuning is not on there...hopefully a new channel...Eclectic Waves)

- The 40s (40s/Swing)
- The 90s (90s)
- X Country (Americana)
- The Village (Folk)
- Willie's Place (Traditional Country)
- Escape (Easy Listening/Beautiful Music)
- Deep Tracks (Deep Album Rock)
- The Groove (Classic R&B)
- Aguila (Regional Mexican)
- Caricia (Spanish Oldies)
- Cinemagic (Movie Soundtracks)
- Enlighten (Southern Gospel)

that, and I see The Loft isn't on there (unless The Coffeehouse is the equivelent). grr.

I was worrying when XM15 was playing 'goodbye' songs (only to note of friends and hosts leaving the XM studios)

Looks like a lesson in how to shoot yourself in the foot. I guess Mel doesn't realize he needs to keep the subscribers happy. This isn't commercial radio where you can say s*rew the listeners.

Cancelled my subscription this past week based on the rumored changes, I listened to the XM decade channels quite a bit and have also listed to the Sirius version of them and there was no comparison, XM was better hands down. The layoffs of 85% of the XM staff just confirmed I made the right decision.

What do you have to do to cancel? I paid for a year back in August. If the quality suffers, I'll be gone.

Seems like they could save a lot by getting rid of Stern and the other trash talkers.

I actually want to THANK Mel. He has almost single handidly removed one of commercial radio's biggest hurdles of last the few decades...one less thing to worry about. Thanks ya big ol' Q tip.

I predict he brings Stern back to commercial radio when the contract is up...for big bucks of course!

Then, Howard can ramble on how they SAVED commercial radio.

Re: MEL KARMAZIN is the antichrist

If Soul Street on 60 goes, I will also be cancelling. I listened yesterday and Soul Street was all music, no talent. Dr. Nick Johnson, Bobby Bennett and Leigh Hamilton were not there. Losing Ken Smith and Matt the Cat on the '50s channel was devastating. Matt's weekly show "Harlem" has to be one of the best showcases of classic rhythm and blues of all time. I fear that Terry "Motormouth" Young and Phlash Phelps could soon disappear from Sixties on Six. These are some major reasons why I have been an XM subscriber for close to four years. Thank you Mel Karmazin for destroying the only radio that was good enough to pay for.

Are you listening to the decades channels for the music, or the personalities? I was forced into a Sirius radio when I bought a new Ford. While I prefer the personality radio of Phlash and Motormouth (I'm working when Pat is/was on,) my wife prefers the "more music" on Sirius 60's. The music is the same either way, and as long as Mel leaves it commercial free, I would continue listening. Oh, yes, the XM OTR Channel (164) is better the Sirius'. Greg Bell has the experience to program the channel. Check out gregbellblog.com. But, if Mel is being loyal to Sirius (remember, he came with the deal), I would be happy as long as one of the OTR channels remained (just happier if it were XM164.)

If I wanted Sirius, I would have subscribed to it in the first place! MEL KARMAZIN is the reason I chose XM in the first place, the guy is a cancer on broadcasting, and a bigot to boot. I already have Sirius on the Dish and never listen to it, despite the slightly better sound quality on the dish. The only reason I have XM, is for a few talk stations, blow them up and I'm gone! Three radios that will be headed to the failed ideal museum, along with El Cassettes & Betamax.

Latest scuttlebutt on xmfan.com is that all the Hispanic channels but Caliente -- a very East Coast-style tropical music channel -- are toast in mid-November. Mexican music and Spanish oldies will exist only as weekly specialty shows.

SiriXM East Coast bias at work here; head west from NYC 750 miles or so and tropical music has no audience at all, but hey, everything west of NYC is Hooterville anyway, right, Mel? ::)

Whether it's a bank, a restaurant or a radio station, the quality invariably suffers when a buyout/merge occurs. Huge nut to crack, cut staff/expenses, load more work onto the poor souls who remain, and the list goes on. The customers always get the shaft in these situations. I paid 3 years in advance for XM based on their superb 60's channel. Wish me luck getting my money back when they screw it up. From what I hear, they screwed it up right before I signed up...people say their previous jingle package was far superior to whoever the part time college kids are that sang this package.

I'm willing to bet that there are a number of subs that will drop if they dump "Aguila" XM92! You don't cut-off the largest minority group like that - heck, if he added spots I'll bet the subs would stay.

But are Mexican-Americans -- or Latinos in general -- subscribing in numbers proportionate to their percentage of US population? Maybe they've gone through the subscriber lists, found very few Lopezes and Rodriguezes, and determined that they're devoting too many channels to too few listeners, and that some of those listeners could be safely abandoned by satellite radio with no negative impact to the bottom line.

As long as Suite 62, XM Chill, Spirit, The Rhyme and Watercolors stay I will be happy. I don't know the Sirius lineup, but it can't compete with XM.

The System will be murdered next week also, very sad.

That stinks. I can still get all of those mix shows plus many more on my Di.fm subscription and the sound quality is way better. Sirius Area 38 is terrible all I hear during those mix shows is unfamiliar tunes and not enough trance music.

Agreed, although it might not happen till the 14th of Nov.
I have heard a lot of good things about Di.fm and will check them and trance.fm(I think that's the name) out.
The only mix show I don't really like is the new one right before A.V.B.
I guess Worldspace has filed for bankruptcy.
