Melanie Christopher to retire from WJTV at year's end

Tonight during WJTV's 5pm newscast, long-time anchorwoman Melanie Christopher announced she will retire at the end of the year, citing primarily family reasons.

I grew up watching Melanie over the years and a huge void will be created when she steps down. However, I can definitely understand why she came to the decision. I'd probably do the same thing if I were in her shoes.

Speaking of shoes, there will be some really big shoes to fill. If I were WJTV, I'd have Marsha Thompson on speed dial. Since Maggie Wade will be at WLBT until the day after Jesus comes, this will be Marsha's big chance to get back into the anchor chair.
A Marsha v. Maggie battle would be very interesting.

Any other suggestions?

How long has Melanie Chrisotpher been an WJTV? I know she has been there since I was in high school in the early 80's

Melanie Christopher was a guest on Jackson radio station WQJQ ( Q 105.1 ) this morning and said she has been at WJTV 12 since 1981
