Melanie Morgan Out At KSFO?

A friend of mine in the business heard Melanie Morgan say today on KSFO that she had been dismissed. A stunt, a divorce in the family, or is she going to work for (Ken) Kohl (at 106.9 FM)? He met with her several times in the last few months.

This was posted and sort of passed over without additional comment. Anybody else heard anything? (Me? That's the first I heard of it.)

My initial reaction is that since she has "family ties" at KSFO/KGO, and since she's becoming one of the leading voices of the arch-conservative, liberal-hating right wing, she'd prefer to stay on that path rather than have to moderate her obviously strong convictions for a new audience, depending upon whether or not Ken Kohl wants to put a third conservative station on the air here.<P ID="signature">______________

From her statement at Move America Foreward, quoted on RadioEq.:
"My agent and I have been in contact with the station management. Since I announced on the air on Friday that my employment with KSFO was over the station has been flooded with phone calls and emails. I am hopeful that in the coming week we can come to an agreement on the issues that remain. Until then I will be off the air."

Re: Melanie Morgan Back At KSFO

Oh, well. That didn't last long. Too bad.

The latest update from the "Radio Equalizer," in Melanie Morgan's own words:

"(...H)ere's the good news:

Negotiations resumed Friday, and today Mickey Luckoff and I have agreed to new contract terms.

I expect to return to the airwaves tomorrow morning.

And what was especially gratifying is how quickly listeners from all around the country and especially here in the Bay Area reacted to the news of my 'demise.' Hundreds and hundreds of phone calls, e-mail by the thousands. Faxes too numerous to count.

That plus several job offers makes me feel pretty terrific.

I was saddened that the senior management at ABC chose such a drastic solution to what was essentially a done deal.

But the momentary madness is over, and I am safely ensconced behind the microphone for the next two-and-a-half years.

And that's a good thing, I've got a lot more jujitsu moves to practice on the left-wing whackos around the country."

...I love the way that there is no middle ground these days. Every single person whose opinions don't march in lock-step with your own has got be labeled in some way. If the character you are playing is drawn so narrowly that you can't even consider another opinion, then you're nothing more than a caricature.

"And that's a good thing, I've got a lot more jujitsu moves to practice on the left-wing whackos around the country." Does a real person actually say things like this?

Re: Melanie Morgan Back At KSFO

Well...just more self serving tripe from the "Queen of What do you Mean"...

The whole thing stinks to high heaven...The 'momentary' removal from the air reeks of promo stunt. More like take a day off...We need to generate from free pub...Anyone remember that vomit inducing Dateline piece? Ugh.

That Aside, DJ, you bring up a good point. I think one of the reasons that there really isn't any middle ground in America these days is that there's none in the media. You're either left or right...Limbaugh and others really created the Conservative Talk Show...And today's radio totally perpetuates the myth.

I've heard people in the radio biz defend zealot talkers like - for example - Rush Limbaugh, claiming that "it's just a show". Well, I don't think the average listener takes it that way because it's not presented that way.

Political Talk Shows usually start off every hour with the host yelling about some injustice to piss the listeners off and generate calls. And, hey, if that talk show host can also turn something into a personal cause and hold a rally at the courthouse, then that's even better. To the Listeners, it's a call to action...To the station, it's a call to promo.

I cannot think of a time in the last 20 years when we, as a country, were this divided...And who comes to save the day? Air America? Not....Right to the other side of the spectrum. Bush Bashing and BORING ASS RADIO is all they have. And this is with "writers".

We have RIGHT FIELD radio or LEFT FIELD radio. And hardly anyone plays up the middle...

Sorry...I'm in a mood....
