Again, 106.9, for the last time

Oy yoy yoy already...!
For the last time. The game plan is not, I repeat, NOT to bring in syndicated programming. There is no intention to sign on Mancow, or Leykis, or anyone else that is not in studio, in San Francisco. Period.
That talent could be local --perhaps a recently fired sports talk host-- or formerly local, like a female morning show host. (Larry, perhaps, Darien, no.) Other talent will be/has been scrutinized and those that fit the bill will be moved here and they'll live and work here. The people under review have been mostly morning show hosts with a long history in music radio, nearly all with major market track records. Like most job openings, most just aren't right for the station.
Also, there is no intention to do radio that appeals to the typical 24-year-old male who laughs every time he hears a dick joke, or when a woman in the studio takes off their top. They're not interested in radio that substitutes rude and arrogant for provocative and creative, so don't hold your breath for the Doghouse. Besides, no one wants their prima donna baggage. There's a lot they'd have to change to get hired here.
This station hopes to attract a 40-year-old male who is still irreverent but has grown up beyond Howard Stern material. He likes a good conversation, whether it's stimulated by a local issue, a letter to the editor, or an episode of Lost. The goal is to appeal to intelligent men (yeah, small target demo, right ladies?) who like their sports when it stirs up a debate (can you say Caribbean?), but can also pipe in about gay marriage, 880 traffic, or Tom Cruise, what an idiot. And all with an eye towards topically entertaining, not KGO informative.
I've mentioned it before as have a couple of others in previous threads: the possibility of hiring Armstrong & Getty in Sacramento. If he could do it, Ken Kohl would. Their contract expires in a year but he knows where all the windows are, and if he can lure them away --sooner rather than later-- he'll do it. And with the unceremonious way he was treated upon his departure, it would be a private little revenge for him to steal those guys away.
Would they go? They might (though they'd have to consider giving up long-established family roots in Sacramento, easier said than done). Where would that leave someone hired to do mornings at 106.9 in the meantime? Well, unless that person(s) does well, the term "lame duck" comes to mind. Or perhaps Armstrong & Getty would do afternoons. That's down the road.
But don't make the mistake of using KNEW or the Quake as a barometer. When you're on a signal listeners never cared about (and with good reason), or that the owners don't really care about, you can't expect stellar results.
