Melissa Carter

I'm hearing 2 rumors:

1. B98.5 has hired its new morning show but hasn't yet announced it.

2. Melissa Carter will be one of the hosts.

Neither rumor is confirmed.

If this true, I hope Melissa tells Burt first so we don't have to hear him cry about it!

I think they will take a hit in the ratings for the afternoon show. Ratings wise, afternoons have been the bright spot of the schedule. Melissa and Greg had chemistry on the air. Cheryl White (assuming she is the replacement) and Greg do not have that chemistry. Cheryl is good, but stiffer than Melissa.

Don't bet on it.

Melissa was a player on a team. Any good team is built on the concept that the team is stronger than any one of it's part. Will the impact be felt? Yes. Will the team move forward? Likely. Those guys lost their first PD and went months without a replacement.

Look at the seasoned talent on that staff. A player leaves and the team collapses? Nope, that staff will lick their wounds and go take on the day. Large market radio is not for small minded sissies.

I say dig up Mara Davis. Just don't let her ring that damn bell all afternoon. Showbiz Liz would be even better.

Besides, you don't drill a nail. Get out much?

Melissa Carter and Jeff Elliot formerly with CBS in FL. Not sure of start date but if she is winding down at 106.7 I would say it's soon. Labor Day? Hard to believe she did not have a contract with Cumulus.

I've been hearing some of the same things. If Melissa did have a contract, it would have been one year and ended late last month. When Marshall Adams first hired his first personalities, they were signed to one-year contracts. I have a feeling that B98.5 PD Chris Egan had an interest in Melissa and Jeff (who I've met personally before at a conference) before MC's contract was completed. As for Jeff, he's been out of terrestrial radio work since January of this year when WIRK laid him off.

As for my first reaction to this: I made the "nail in the coffin" remark taking into account of how the chemistry between Melissa & Greg proved more successful than other shows on the station. In reality, I hope it isn't horrible for the station because, indeed, several seasoned employees there are very nice and good at what they do.

It is kind of disappointing that she would be going to a Cox property. She has been a Cumulus talent a really long time. She and Greg did have a great chemistry, maybe Castro will slide back into that slot. She and Black also had a good chemistry but of a different vein.

Expect an announcement within the next couple weeks, if not in a few days.

I'm also hearing that 106.7 PD Jennifer Perry really would like to hire Cheryl White full-time, perhaps this is her opportunity. "Black and White" in the afternoon, anybody? In all seriousness though, the whole "format clock" or whatever they call it needs to go. Badly. All News sounds like a small-market news reading service. That's all they do...read the news. The only exceptions were during Black & Carter and Woolsey's shift. Perry needs to figure out a way to reign in viewers regularly- and fast- they actually LOST listeners last month. Dickey's aren't known for patience.

Leave Cheryl Castro between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and find talent to replace Melissa carter. BT's right. The exceptions are when Black and Carter worked afternoons and Mark Woolsey at night. John Lisk also does it well. Why? They are having a conversation with the listener within the constraints of too rigid an all-news format. In the WGST days, Tom Hughes and Denis O'Hayer knew how to have a conversation with and hook a listener. David Hull also knows how to do it. The morning broadcast? Ugh.

Mornings and weekends (worked on mostly by assistant PD Jackie Howard) are a train-wreck, and have been since Marshall left. There's no sensible reason why I should be hearing a taped piece from John Lisk (on more than 15 hours ago at 106.7) during the 5-10 morning newscast. But I am...and it sounds bad. It also doesn't help that they chose Andy Rose and Michelle Wright, two of the driest people out there, to anchor together against a well established, proven successful WSB morning show with Scott Slade.

At least update your content. Get your reporters (the few they have) out of bed to begin their day when the station does. Stop relying so much on poorly recorded reports from Good Day Atlanta people. I hope Jennifer Perry takes this departure by Melissa as an opportunity to Step. It. Up. and gain some much-needed imagination to rethink the station.

Disappointing that she'd leave Cumulus for Cox? What's disappointing about that? Seems like a no-brainer.

What, she left Cumulus for Cox?????? OMFG!!!! :-\

No brainer... At least she decided to stay in the business.

My best to you Melissa! You should do well there.

I am surprised by this move for Melissa Carter.

She left The Bert Show because she was tired of morning radio. Now two years later, she is back doing a morning radio show. What give$$$$ ?
Why couldn't she just go back to The Bert Show. They have never replaced Jenn Hobby and Melissa would be heard in many other markets with The Bert show.

I can't see Melissa Carter doing soccer mom bits like Relationship Report Card on B98.5 .

And how can you go and compete directly with your former gig you did for ten years ? Did she get Bert's blessing ?

This definitely affects Q100.

Is it not entirely clear to you why she would leave? Cox is a better company that Cumulus. VOX pays better than Cumulus. Cox offered Melissa her own co-hosted show in the mornings; Cumulus did not. All News 106.7 isn't doing well; B98.5 is getting their best numbers in years. Does is make sense now why she would leave for Cox?

(Btw, why would she have to have Bert's blessing?!? Bert matters very little in this.)

I'm guessing the "tired of the morning hours" argument was a farce. Or maybe after working at 106.7 for a while, she realized "oops, what the hell did I do!!??"

As far as a "blessing" from Bert....how do you know they are friends? And if they are, friends cant work at competing stations? I had friends that were direct competitors of mine. It didn't make us less friendly.
