The problem is, a lot of rock starts out as Alternative because it is new. But often, like in the case of said examples, they gain mass appeal, WPLJ and KYSR start playing them, and soon, Z100 and KIIS FM.
After a while, it becomes hard to believe that a group like SugarRay was at one time calle "The Shrinki-dinks," and got played on alternative stations.
But that's the slippery slope, and it's how many songs got exposed.
You have to wonder though, with the absence of Alternative in many major markets, how will the new music be discovered? Or will CHR become a cutting edge format like it once was. And what role does the internet play?
