When did KC101 finally stop airing spots?

Since WKCI isn't listed on yes.com, it's hard to tell. Only person who can probably shed some light on this question is the thread initiator, MarcB.

I dunno. I stopped checking the station after 2:25AM and finally went to bed at 3AM. One would assume one of two things happened. They ran out of spots to play and switched to dead air or they ran spots until the morning team arrived.

Ha Ha. WAXQ moved to new studios, so that's why they've been having technical sanfus as of late.

All spots, all night long, KC101. I wonder if they made extra money airing spots all night. People would tune in expecting to hear the spots end soon, and so they'll hear a lot of spots. Or just tune to Kiss 95.7 or BLI

I could have shed some light on the subject if Marc had called me and let me know to tune in. Most people are sleeping at that time in the morning. I am sometimes up at that time of the morning but usually just checking out boards like this one and playing records. I can say this: Reserve your judgement and stop blaming Cheap Channel. Admittedly, Cheap Channel is a bane to radio's very core purpose and existence and also admittedly, Cheap Channel is one of the worst offenders. We all hate Cheap Channel. I hate Cheap Channel. You hate Cheap Channel. It's a given. But take a gander at what CBS Radio nee Infinity has been doing in the last couple of days...

Radio is all but dead, air or otherwise.

Ok, so I'm not really a fan of George Bush, but how on earth is he to blame for the way radio is operated? And, what does he have to do with KC-101?

I remember KC101 when they programmed Beautiful Music and were monikered "WKCI - Your Stereo Island".

Then, they promoted themselves as having the "Tallest FM tower in the State of CT".

Loved them when Jerry Kristafer did AM Drive.

They should flip the format.

I guess that is what happens at Clear Channel when you have no board operators working. Most, if not all of the Clear Channel stations now have their mid-day shift voicetracked, which is just ridiculous because you are paying someone to voicetrack, and someone to board op the shift as well. No wonder why their stock did a huge nose dive last year!!!!

When you have a shift VT'ed, you don't need a board op. All Clear Channel pays for is the most likely, one hour, it takes for the talent to track their breaks. So it costs them one hour of pay to create this air shift each day. If you needed a board op, that would be pointless..

And in response to radioguy1981..Bush has nothing to do with the way radio is today. Thank Mr. Clinton for that telecommunications bill in 1996.

I know someone who works at New Haven's division of Clear Channel, and they have a board operator there during the midday shift, and they have that person, whoever is their middayer, voicetrack. So you are paying two people, although I am sure the board op is making minimum wage.

Odds are if they still have an op during middays, that person is most likely seg editing the logs up till the late evening, answering phones during contests, doing production work and monitoring WAVZ and WKCI's transmitters. With those combined responsibilities, there not so much able to board op as they are air monitoring. It really is ashame.

As to why they might have been playing all spots that night, either the logs were not created or merged, or and this has happened on WELI too, when midnight rolled around, the log for the next day failed to generate properly even though it was properly created and seg edited.
