Meltdown at KISW on Wed?

It's been awfully quiet since the meltdown on the BJ Shea show Wed morning. With the call screener storming out on air and leaving a cryptic message with show producer that apparently alluded to doing harm to himself, they bail on live show and insert a 'Best Of' for balance of the week. No updates on the website and no info on staff pages. Podcast of that show never appeared. No one appears to be talking. Staff suspension(s)? Obviously not a scheduled time off.

A meltdown of some kind is guaranteed on the BJ Shea show. That's its appeal - it's honest radio and people listen for that. Makes everything else on the radio sound boring by comparison. If I were managing Entercom Seattle (it WOULD be a happier place today, no?), I'd see the value in that. When will Entercom wake up and realize that BJ is KISW's most valuable asset?

I don't agree with everything BJ says, but he does have some currency in this market and what KISW is doing is wrong....

I have it from a very reliable source that The Reverend En Fuego is OK and the situation should be explained on the air very soon. Dino Rossi is in-studio on Wednesday AND the sold-out, "Throwdown in T-Town" is this coming up weekend. It seems that the show would be on the air to push the guests and payoff to the whole "Double R Vs. Thee Ted Smith" angle.

I also have it from a good source that while KISW is missing the show's audio from Wednesday the 15th, one of the members of the Super Secert URL Club recorded and released the episode of the show in both the mp3 and ogg file format.

Thanks for revealing the "super secret" URL.

While it might be good for an occasional spike, keeping him off for a week at a time is just stupid.

Unless this is how he plans his vacations, I don't know......

It happens all the time where shows leave you with a quote on quote "cliffhanger" until the return from vacation. Stern did it with Artie Lange prior to their last vacation. It left their audience wondering what would happen upon their return. Wouldn't surprise me if it was all staged, but regardless it is a good idea rather than just announcing you're taking another vacation.

Well, stunts are nothing new....

I now have it on good authority that the show will be back LIVE on Tuesday (10/21) with Chad Eaton and the usual Monday "Hawk Talk" segment. Dino Rossi will be LIVE on Wednesday with a 50/50 chance of Dave Attell being in-studio on Friday.

Also at some point due to BJ and the Red Sox loosing a bet to Ricker and his Tampa Bay Rays, Ricker will host the BJ Shea Morning Experience for one day while BJ has to dawn Ricker's trademark "Guy-Liner" and do Ricker's midday jock shift.

Now, that will be some interesting radio...

Heh, maybe I'll actually listen to the morning show then. ;D

I'm gonna have to disagree Bongwater....a planned stunt like this has exactly nothing in common with "HONEST RADIO"...quite the opposite in fact. It amazes me that radio people....you are...or at least WERE in radio right Bongwater? How in any possible way could planned "meltdowns"..."in-fighting" or "uproars" be called "HONEST!

No disagreement here that the show can be like the car wreck that you can't turn away from. No one in the market does that better. This instance just didn't have the same vibe of being shtick (which is where I originally thought the incident was heading).

The extended and uncomfortable stall until STP got a 'Best Of' loaded for last 90 mins. TS's sudden and total silence as the incident unfolded. These guys are entertaining, but I'm not sure they could pull this one off as an act. Besides, it just doesn't seem put together in a manner in which a pro like Shea would do to get to vacation break.

The complete lack of comment/info on the incident (except for the forums at supersecreturl) adds to my speculation that this wasn't a stunt. As some have said, why leave events and such that have been promoted for weeks just hanging? Even an intern would know how to build something off of the on air incident if it was a stunt.

I can't imagine a seasoned vet like Shea and management doing absolutely NOTHING (for almost a week) if this was a stunt. What's the upside? A little buzz at the supersecreturl? A couple comments here? Abysmal failure on BJ's part if this was stunt to add proof to his value in contract year negotiations. Again, that's why it doesn't pass the smell test for me as a stunt.

Guess if info is right, we may find out tomorrow am!

I couldn't agree more CLEVER USER NAME...it's possible this ONE EPISODE ISN'T A STUNT. In general tho, these guys have more planned "outbursts" than nearly any show I've ever heard. Honestly tho, this show has ZERO HONESTY on it!

Seriously, "in-fighting", "uproars", as far as I know, that's pretty HONEST radio. But maybe it was staged. I just never had to stage one. Problem is, it wouldn't have been staged.....

I WAS in radio...got OUT in the nick of time. Now I'm happily watching it all fall apart from the sidelines than directly underneath......

BJ's show isn't worth a damn. What station could be proud of a program whose target demo is trailer park residents who buy Busch beer, MD 20/20, cheese whiz, Fruit Loops and drive a beat up 1972 plymouth.

If I may ask......what were you doing in radio and what are you doing now? No need to give away all your secrets tho.

Staged? If so, then it's tired and desperate and a one-shot deal.

If not, it's still tired and a one-shot deal.
