MEMO TO CBS/SAN FRANCISCO

And, according to my copy of the Brooks and Marsh 'Complete Directory...', the dates of the last radio broadcasts for McNeil and Godfrey were 1968 and 1972, respectively.

Rhetorical question: Does a live broadcast originating from the Tonga Room of the Fairmont in the '60s and broadcast on KSFO really count as a remote (it's all in the same building)? :)

Same building? Heck, they could have stretched a mike cord across the hall from the KSFO studios to the Tonga Room!

Of course, KCBS/KQW did "remotes" from the Garden Court of the Palace Hotel ... when the station had its main studios in the Palace.

Yes.
FWIW, Art Linkletter's House Party was broadcast on CBS Radio from January 15, 1945 to October 13, 1967.

Okay. I didn't really like his show, especially when he was goading the kids into saying embarrassing things. But I remember that CBS continued to hang on to a couple hours of old-school radio into the late 60s. There was Arthur Godfrey Time at 10:05am, Art Linkletter's Houseparty at 11:05am, and Let's Talk to Lucy with Lucille Ball at 11:30. Houseparty was interesting in that they took the 1/2 hour TV show and whittled it down to fit the radio slot that was 5 minutes shorter what with the hourly newscast.

By the way there's a cute story about some kids' experiences on House Party here:

Because you gave a literal answer to a rhetorical question, what makes a KSFO broadcast from the Tonga Room a remote as opposed to treating the Tonga Room as just another studio (as if this thread hasn't drifted far enough already)? I know you'll have reasons.

To Whom it May Concern:

Wake up!

KFRC-still weak! 2nd rate Midwest sounding! Tweak it to sound like WCBS or KRTH.

MOVIN-not working either. Look at the San Jose (where the population is) books! KDON regularly pulls a 1 share or more with a carrier signal from Monterey that only covers half of the South Bay, at best. Go down to Monterey, hire talent at KDON, bring em up to the Bay, get back all the listeners Hot 97.7 left behind and do HOT 99/7....then watch your ratings go ridiculous! How hard is this?

ALICE-is languishing. Give it a shot of adrenaline with a mix of Dance/Retro/Today! With that signal you can make Energy 92.7 go away in 5 seconds.

KITS-sounds decent, but bring back the sound of a few years ago...music mix was much better and ratings showed it.

KKSF-Sinking ship. Why? Because there's no vitality or energy. Tweak it and call it Groovin 103.7 and do a cool mix of good AC/Jazzy R&B/Grooves format. Catch lots of KOIT listeners as well as KBLX and KBAY!

Or, easier yet, hire me. I'll do it for half of what you're paying your "Pros"...and then I'll take all the glory!

Bring Steve Smith back to program it. Not Michael Newman. Newman likes to brag HE Put Hot977 on the map. He was just a a selector Slave. Hot 977 ran off Newman when KWSS went Churban and took some of Hots audience.
