Memo to Fox: Rename "The OT"!

Fox, stop using the name of your NFL postgame show to subtly crosspromote a program (The OCthat you canceled a long. Time. Ago. 8)

I still have flashbacks to "The WB" every time I hear that title...

Why? ABC hasn't changed the name of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition after the original Extreme Makeover was shelved.

Fox doesn't need to [and likely won't] abandon its "The OT" name for the post-game show. It's named as such primarily for the same reason Monday Night Raw is/was technically 'WWE Raw' (first hour) and 'WWE Raw Zone' (second hour), or why ESPN makes a big deal of "Monday Night Football Launch" --it's an additional 'show' within their already allotted airtime to attract advertising.

Plus, Fox hasn't changed the title of "America's Most Wanted: America Fights Back" after they cancelled "America's Most Wanted" for all of three days!

Aside from any former motivation that Fox may have had to promote The OC, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that "overtime" (OT) play in football occurs after the clock has run out on the original game...so "OT" is a mildly clever way of saying "post-game" show. In some markets, they'll call the local affiliate's post-game show "The 5th Quarter." Same concept.

Or, as in the case of WGN/Chicago after Cubs baseball, "The 10th Inning."

"Married with Touchdowns", "21 Jumpshot", "King of the Field", "Back to Dugout" "So you think you can Score" "American Pastime", "Hell's Postgame", "Are you Smarter than a Coach", "The Cleveland Browns Show", "'til Sudden Death"

Incidentally, the character's full name on that show actually is Cleveland Brown - not sure if that's just a coincidence...

Clever material, KIFR! I hope you'll have a long career as the morning DJ on the All New Q-102.

I personally don't mind it compared to that BLANDLY named Subway Post-Game Show which those of us in AFC cities are subjected to by CBS week after week. Ditto with NBC & the SNF post-game show (Only their sponsor is Wendy's).

Talk about a throwback to the days of OLD TIME RADIO when EVERY show had to have a sponsor of some kind. Neither NBC nor CBS need to do that today.

Thank god ESPN doesn't engage in that kind of behavior with MNF. :)

Just my opinion.....

Cheers :D
