Re: Your WFLA Newscasts

Kay, your news writing is good. Your news content is good. Your stories flow well and overall you have a well-defined focus on writing balanced stories.
Now, the bad news:
You need to SLOW DOWN and begin to concentrate on your verbal skills while presenting the news on air. You rush through your newscasts as if you have stage fright. I do in fact get the impression you are feeling very uncomfortable while doing a newscast. You need to practice the basics of presentation. You not only rush through the news content, but also the call letters. When you say "traffic and weather together" it is almost a foreign language. If you are restrained by a timing factor, then edit your news content to get the point across while at the same time being "understood" by your listeners.
Listen to your co-workers on WFLA. They get a lot of information across simply by editing the stories, not by racing so fast that words all become jumbled. Kay, "Less is More" in radio. You have a good sound but you are wasting it by racing through your newscasts. You are "center stage" when on air, and you should take advantage of that by putting forth the best presentation possible, both in content and verbal annunciation.
Tape some of your co-workers. Then tape yourself. Compare. Try to find a good place for you to be.....good sounding and comfortable. Listeners pick that up, and it does make an impression, benefiting you and WFLA!
Good Luck!
