Memo to KFYI Staff:

You're the new KFYI pd. What are your first moves?

My list is 1) fire the boring 4-7 guy 2) fire the lame 8-10 guy 3) fire the idiotic 5-8 guy 4) hire a real news staff.

LOL, but then all you have is the syndicated talkers and
about 14 hours of C2CUFO reruns. Or Dr. Bob. ::)
Is he a real doctor? What a waste of Saturday mornings,
when 55/FYI could be airing Kim Komando live, and all three
hours to boot. 7-10, 7-10, 7-10 (during DST).

How about...

Carry El Rushbo and Hannity live--and figure out how to
juggle the local talkmeisters around that twice a year.

Hmmm, maybe that would mean losing the 5-8 lunatic. ;D

I know it won't happen since Cheap Channel and Fox are
in their own incestuous relationship (see: Mc12 and the
Arizona Socialist Republic), but dump that second-rate
Fox News and bring back CBS (bong!) at the TOH, along with
the aforementioned desire for a beefed-up news staff.

No more canned weather from Royal Norman. The local
news anchor--which they will have more of (see above)
--is perfectly capable of reading the latest forecast and
current conditions.

And get rid of that @#$% I-CRAP!

1. Move the sports guys (Jacobs & Hayworth) to 910 where they belong.

Jacobs is best doing sports talk, but he's not a good solo host in any format. His uninformed-Hannity-wannabe act is just that - an act, and a very bad one. But he needs a level-headed co-host like he had in Mike Golic back in the day. Maybe offer Dale Hellistrae a full-time contract and pair him up with Jacobs in PM drive, moving Jeff Dean to early evenings.

Unfortunately, J.D.'s status as an ex-Congresscritter will probably preclude his returning to his former occupation.

2. Leave the Nearly Bald One alone. He's the last bastion of sanity on that increasingly-ridiculous station.

3. No PD that wants credibility should allow Michael Savage anywhere near his/her station. Morton Downey Jr. did the same act (a bit) better, 20 years ago. This is not 1994. Insane ramblings from a talk-show host don't show that he's conservative - they show that he's nuts. Send Savage back to 1100, where he can rant and rave incoherently between Colon-Blow infomercials.

4. Go live & local from 7 to 10 PM.

Jacobs = sports. The guy is ignorant about anything else. Get rid of him. Get a seasoned news guy with a sense of humor, and do a good morning show.

Barry, keep, he is still entertaining (though not at the top of his game), give him an extra hour.

Rush, whatever, I don't get it, but plenty do.

Hannity, same same, I'm working during Rush and Sean, so I don't miss it.

JD. Oy vey. Jettison his pompus ass (or give him early morning) and get Joe Crummey back.

Savage? Send a message, get rid of awful, ignorant and stupid radio, let KKNT have him. Get Dennis Miller, he has a fantastic show that is dying on 960. I'd love to hear him live, but that is Barry Young time, I can live with that.

Get rid of the psychic that talks to dead people.

Get rid of the pseudo doctor that spends 87% of his show referring people to his sponsors and doing endless infomercial spots, his advice is pure crap and bunk and he is a waste of space.

Leo Laporte! Carry both weekend days, LIVE

Kim Kommando, all 3 hours please!

Jan D'Atri, like it matters, you could play the same show every week and get the same thing.

Terry Gilberg, zzzzzzzzz

Mike Broomhead, blah blah illegal aliens, blah blah mexicans, only good thing is he is not Roberta Gale talking about her menstrual cramps.

Bill Handel is fun to listen to, the money guy on Saturday isn't (because my 401K is tanking right now) Do NOT bring back Satellite Blsters.

Advertising, ramp it up, compare yourself to the dull KTAR and all the nameless wannabe's.

But, add at least one new host, and do lots of live local event oriented stuff.

Scott Connor

Just kidding

...and yet the current format has taken them to #1 on more than one occassion. Nice try guys, but maybe there is a reason why YOU aren't PD. ;D

Clearly here, syndicated may be better than robotic.

Mark Jeffrey, your Traffic Guy here...after 23 years at KFYI, I think now is the time we go to 24 hour traffic!..but thanks for all of your other...ummm...creative ideas..I'll be sure to pass them on in the next meeting

...and this is why you post on a message board about radio rather than ever make decisions having anything to do with programming -in- radio. How about look at the "boring", "lame" and "idiotic" hosts boring RATINGS.

Just so you're aware, the two things that count in radio are 1) ratings and 2) revenue and not necessarily in that order (although higher ratings determine confiscatory ad rates, etc). So, Mr. Junior Program Director, after firing 1/2 the lineup that brings in the bacon, what will you do while standing on that unemployment line when the market manager hands you your walking papers?

Thanks for saving me from having to respond to every item in that one post...

Legend is on to something, though. Dennis Miller is intelligent and funny, and he appeals to young and old, WHEN he can be heard. It would be great to get Joe Crummey back in his old time slot but I heard J.D has better ratings than J.C. did. The guy talking to the dead is one of Barry and Kim's shows. It's awful but it will probably stay. Wish they could put Bill Handel on both weekend days. Jan D'Atri is terrible, especially when she has the pet psychic on. They will never fire Dr. Bob, and eventually we'll all need him. Broomhead's not so bad sometimes, wish he would stop saying "okay,okay,okay......"

So why does KTAR charge four times more than KFYI for a minute of ad time and more than double KFYI's revenue?

Bring that show TechtalkRadio from Tucson on, It's on KNST, why not KFYI as well.

Glenn Beck and a show similar to Nightside but Arizona Minded. Nights can be fun!

Glenn is on KTAR. I told them to add him over 2 years ago on 620. KFYI isn't going to spend on nights... KTAR had two night dudes and when one left, they filled in Phil Hendrie instead of finding a new local yakker. Besides, Coast is a huge show and one of the fanatic fans would probably incite a riot if they took the show off. I remember sitting in Laurie Cantillo's office several years ago as she showed me (e)mail she got from C2C listeners - yikes!

Do you have anything to substantiate this? I suspect not.

Great idea! I would listen. But you should also add weather. My choices would be a live Royal Norman forecast, and stealing Bruce Gary (or is it Gary Bruce?) and Dewey Hopper from the competition!
