the tie breaker for the peak chart position was # of weeks on the chart......n/a means it didnt chart. There 15 bonus cuts, plus the Top 40 Military hits of all time, per this survey only. I listed yr where available, any correction to our information is welcomed. Here we go, upset at #1, Ballad of the Green Berets" and "Soldier Boy were aced out of #1.

I had some trouble aligning the titles for the columns....first col= chart position in decending order.....2nd col= peak chart position on billboard .........3rd col=tie beaker where two cuts peaked at the same position, used total weeks on the chart........4th col=yr......... 5th col = title/artist

nope this didnt work either, I tranfered list from my word file, and it get hosed on the transfer.

How about "Danger Zone" and "Take My Breath Away" from Top Gun (maybe as extras)

or "Let 'Em In" by McCartney (the marching instrumental portion)

If I keep getting entries , I'll amend the list......

I'll retype for better clarity,it got all hosed

1st col = number of songs in ascending order to #1
2nd col = cart pos on billboard
3rd col = tie breaker if same chart pos...used weeks on the chart for tie breaker
4th col = yr

thanks for the imput.

the only caveot i'm not sure of is the inclusion of a couple of country songs..yes they fit the idea..but seem out of place with the overwellmingly rock/top 40 list. i'll admit there are some tunes here i've never heard of..deep cuts that maybe did not make the chart rotation back in the day i'm guessing...i assume by their titles they are rock as well..out of the total list, i know i've played 45 or so over the years on air..the rest are the ones i'm not familiar with..not saying it's bad mind you..just looking at the list..merle haggard and hawkshaw seems out of place in this list..good job from all... ;D

thanks oldies76, and firepoint...........the committee, is debating "Boy George" and the "Leatherman"...who passed away a couple of years ago.

Deltas69 thanks for the great entries that you contributed to our survey, you make a very good point about the country and the deep cuts, let me explain........... The deep cuts are the only way we could come up with at least 60...."Lights of Abq" is a wonderful song as is "Goodbye my sweetheart, hello Viet Nam" from the movie Full Metal Jacket., unfortunetly a lot of folks have never heard them ............ due to the crossover phenom of the Rock N' Roll era, country was a big in the billboard top 40 charts, our #1 song is Battle of New Orleans a country song first and it crossed over to the TOP 40 as did sink the Bismark, Glen Campbell charted on both charts with most his music, Hawkshaw Hawkins died with Patsy Cline and she was A big Cross over artist . I hope this answers your questions, I solicted comments about our assignment and I thank you for your thoughts.

PS remember the other phenom form the country charts that crossed over to the POP charts.................. It was the answer songs...there were about 25 answer songs between 1959 and 1969

example : Hank Locklin - Please Help Me I'm Falling answer from Skeeter Davis - I Can't Help You cause I'm Falling Too.

Roger Miller "King Of The Road" ...answer from .Jody (I can't remember her last name) - Queen of the House

Jim Reeves - He'll Have to go - answwer - He'll Have To say .........etc. I believe Skeeter Davis and Damita Jo had The most answer songs about 3 each If I Recall.

yea..i know..just don't really like music from the kountry side of the control board...lol..and yet i helped produce a two hour country television show ten years ago for TNN..and have a couple of radio awards from the CMA ...go figure.. ???

Delta ...being a music fanatic since I was 6 yrs old, I like everything that has charted , country, pop. R&B, etc............the scary part is that I have 95 % of those Military hits and all the answer songs (about 40 actually...............my wife tells me I need therapy.............. when you Love music as i do , I have to have everything, Maybe I do need therapy, for sure more space. Wow, thats interesting what you have done on the televison scene, good job. I am getting ready to launch an all Oldies video show on our local cable access ch, strictly amateaur compared to what you have done. But given my passion and knowledge, it might be a pretty good show.
peace - out

The best version of "Universal Soldier" is by The Highwaymen. I think "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" may have been done by them too. They put a lot of emotion into their singing which make their versions a notch above other, imo.

wow...I have never heard a version of Universal Soldier except by Glen Campbell and Donovan...of course It was written by Buffey St Marie, so It makes sense tha a folk group may have recorded it. I am very curious to find that version and check it out.

Wait Til My Bobby Gets Home - Darlene Love
The White Cliffs of Dover - The Righteous Brothers version

We will have your weekend all filled up in no time.
