MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

With Memorial Day Weekend coming up, do you think any stations in SC are geared up for a format flip or tweaking? Also, what are some stories about past changes to radio in SC during the Memorial Day Weekend? Would love to hear the stories.

I don't see anything happening in Columbia. I just wish the WNKT 107.5 move in would hurry along. I don't even believe their CP has been granted yet. So, we're probaly looking at late 2007/early 2008 until they unpack their suitcases in the Capital city.

What about Greenville/Spartanburg, Florence, Charleston, or Myrtle Beach? Anyone have any tidbits or gut feelings? Let's hope this will be a fun summer! Let's discuss!

Neil as far as Memorial Day Weekend flips go anything is possible... I don't remember any changes on Memorial day weekend, but I do remember when WSCQ Flipped from standards to JO. It was on the 4th of July weekend... Of course they did the stunting where they had some of the other AMFM stations re broadcast over SCQ then that Friday around 4PM we were treated to a ticking clock then at 5PM Jammin' 100.1 was born... Even Though Hot 103.9 got a two week jump on the launch of their station I had thought how cool it would have been to have two stations launch at the same time, but that did not happen... The other big launch I remember was Z 93 over in Dillon when they came back to life as a classic rocker... Once again it was not on Memorial day instead it was on Labor day and they launched at 9:29 AM ie their dial position even though they called them selves Z 93... Have fun this weekend... I am sure we will get our usual Memorial Day 500 from 96.7 The Eagle from the Cloud Company, but just like Columbia it will be boring for normal radio up here in Rockford... Thank goodness I have Sirius in the car and home so atleast I won't be subjected to the same ole' same ole'... CC1

That would be the best thing that could happen to upstate radio... Just for kicks and grins I loaded up their audio stream to let my wife listen since it is geared towards woman and my wife told me and I can quote her exact words "That Is One Hour Of My Life I Will Never Get Back". If that was said by my wife who is more open minded than I am then Entercom Greenville has some serious issues if other listeners feel the same way more important those female listeners... Judging by their ratings I think a lot of listeners feel the same way my wife does... CC1

I agree with you guys, if no one cares about WGVC, why even bother to torture people with a waste of a signal. They could have gone so many ways. Smooth Jazz, Urban AC, or could just GO BACK TO OLDIES!

HOLY COW Robybn I forgot all about that!!! For some reason I was thinking it was Labor Day... I totally forgot all about the Kicks/lite switch... CC1

Yeah I thought the flip to WLTY Lite 96 was over Labor Day weekend as well. I remember it was 1998, but I could have also sworn it was around September.
