Memorial Day

Do anyone know if any of the DFW radio stations will be doing anything special for Memorial Day?

I'm hoping The Beat, Casa, or La Kalle put it in the mix for the weekend. I always look forward to hearing that.

Would be nice to hear some kind of special programming on KRNB as well.

KMVK is doing their Top 500 feel good songs of all time.

KLUV was running the "History of Rock and Roll" last weekend (or whatever it is, that concludes with the "Rock and Roll Timesweep" of clips of all the #1 songs of all time, in order, through Feb 1981) and I assume it's continuing into this weekend. KLUV first ran it on Memorial Day, 1989. Those that have heard it before know it's VERY laborious to listen to, and covers some strange territory (disco-era Bee Gees, Donna Summer, etc alongside the REAL vets of R&R.)

A few years ago, Jeff at KLIF asked me about doing some tapes to run on KLIF recreating the Top 40 sound of KLIF. I did a couple hours of demo with old audio of jocks, promo's, spots, jingles, and music...it sounded awesome. I told him I could set the computer up to do it all day. Essentially an hour of one jock and an hour of another and on and on throughout the day. I pulled breaks from old KLIF airchecks that were in the clear to use in and out of songs and such. I had the original Charlie & Harrigan, Johnny Dark, Dave Ambrose, Mike O'Shea, Selden, Jim O'Brien, Jimmy Rabbitt, Russ Knight, Charlie Van Dyke, Hal Martin, Ken Dowe, Jim Taber, Dickie Heatherton, Randy Robins, Deano Day, plus a different newscast each hour from back when, intact with news of a particular day. He loved the idea and I gave him the two hours of CD samples but never heard back. My guess was management didn't buy it.
Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda....

That's tragic Steve. It goes to show some fail to embrace history as they should.

Would have only done justice if it was on the 1190 freq and not 570......
At least WLS will be doing a great memorial...time to break out the terrabyte drive and record their stream (they wouldnt DARE turn that off would they??)

I agree with PLEX Steve, sad they didn't run with it.

But I can hear the talk in the hallways as we flash back
to that day of decision......

"Screw this great bit of radio history that Steve put together;
that long time DFW listeners and radio folks alike would
enjoy hearing. Can we make any money off this? Quick!
Call our consultants and lawyers! No, wait a second. We
ARE lawyers!...."
