Memories Of 102.7 KTFM

Ran across this today. It was one of the greatest phoners ever made. My mentor Joe B caught this on tape.

A young girl named Veronica was calling in to request a song and her mom picked up the phone and made a huge scene. A song was even made about it.

This song brought back so many memories. Thought I would share.

VERONICA, COME PICK UP YOUR ROOM!!!!

A song? Could it have been a station promo? I recall a promo on KTFM sometime in 1995/96. with a young girl saying "Hi, this is Veronica and blah, blah, blah" ( I don't remember how the rest of the promo went). I don't remember the song, but I remember the promo, because it was rather unusual for any commoner, let alone a young girl, to make a promo for the station. I think its on one of my archaic analog cassette tapes from that time period. It was quite unique and very original.

That Jock knew his market and owned his daypart doing compelling radio, I think he should be on the air somewhere, instead of behind the scenes...

Greg was my mentor back in my early days of radio. I agree he was a great jock.

I stand corrected. The little girl's name in the 1995 promo is 'Monica'. So sorry.

Totally remember listening to that!! Ah, good times. Thanks for the post. You wouldn't happen to have anything with Miss Ree would you?

;)

Yeah I miss [gingle] "pure San Antonio--KTFM--102.7" as well. It takes me back to the summer of '98, when I first moved to San Antonio. The one song that sticks out is the "Tide is High" remake by Angelina. I loved the morning show with Drex O'Drawers and Miss Ree. Hot Henrietta did a great job with the mid-morning slot. I heard Drex is in Chicago now at Kiss 103.5, I am not sure where Hot Henrietta is, maybe she is a program director somewhere.

That song was created in 2000 Titled "Veronica" by The SA Players The DJ was Steve "Smokin Chavez" I have the 12" LP of Veronica. I bought it in Houston at the old Soundwaves on Hillcroft and Westheimer in August 2002.

I wonder if he is related to Charles Chavez of now defunct KHYS Port Arthur?

I don't know if you'll remember Joey D.. Now he's a manager at Palm Harbor and is selling Mobile Homes.. Who would of thought he would be doing that? He still has that same annoying voice...

Once upon a time I had my own issues with Joey D but... ouch. Hey a job is a job. We all cant expect to be in it forever ya know?

Dominique, did you make up "latina28?" It's ok to admit you did, we're all family here...

No. The mods have my IP address on lock and if I ever create another name they will ban me forever.

That's true. Maybe latina28 is Veronica. She would probably be around 28 by now.

When you worked at KTFM, did you ever meet DJ Laz?

Nah, I came in around the time 98.5 appeared. I will never forget rolling round the streets of San Antonio in our broadcast unit and just about everywhere we went everyone yelled out something on the lines of "YALL SUCK!" or "98.5 THE BEAT"

It wasn't fun.

We also used to have street parties and the people from KBBT used to crash them. It was kind of like we were the old man lying on the floor with a broken hip and KBBT was a young boy who ran up on us and kicked us while we were down.

Ahhhhhhhh good times. lol

Wow, that is depressing. You think you are a part of San Antonio's #1 station only to be dethroned by a station barely in existence.

Which DJs were working at the time you got there? I left San Antonio in '99 to join the Army. Was Drex and Hot Henrietta still there?

Yes Drex and Henry were still there.

A list of DJs on staff in the rotating door during my time were....

(Not all at once)

Robbie Rob, Ricky G, Valencia, Swiss, Fabian, Sammy The Bull Or Nino Brown whichever you wanna call him, Joe B, Jason Hernandez, Stephanie, Joey Dee, Monika, JD, Budman and Booger, Dax, The Wild One (R.I.P.), Dario "The Delicious One"

Some of those people were around longer than others.

Dario is doing mornings in El Paso and having a great time from what I understand. When I was at KT we never ever would have allowed that to happen. That stinks. I was on the beach at that time...my own choice. Thank God.

Sorry to hear that.

BTW

I knew BUDMAN and Booger were a Clifton creation...using jocks from the COX hip hop in Hawaii.

**Insert Family Feud Game Show Sounder When Contestant Gets Wrong Answer**

I went to El Paso with Dario to go work at XHTO. I still speak with him all the time. He is not doing mornings anymore. He is doing middays.
