Memories Of 102.7 KTFM

Well...ok last time I spoke with Dario he was doing Mornings, Middays, Promotions, APD, and some janitorial stuff too.

LOL

Easy Dom.

BTW...I loved that station when they first went on...same consultant Z95 in Corpus was using....(right?).

Consultant Bob Mitchell

People either love him or hate him.

Don't forget D-Maq, Pete Galindo, Larry Chase, Mel Tovar, Roberta Varella, Big Mike, Bennieben, Captain Kyle, Ray Hernandez,Cliff Treadway (The Janitor), Cindy C, Wally C, Rick Da Stick and countless others. Henrietta is in the nursing profession in town. Pete is in Chicago, D-Maq works for ESPN Networks, Mel is in Chicago with Drex, Roberta got her degree in psychology and is currently in that profession, Big Mike is still around, Ray is doing freelance video and internet work, Cliff is in nashville, Cindy C is in Houston with her husband DJ AK, Rick Da Stick is a manager for a bank, Haven't heard on Kyle. Larry is a radio producer for a ministry and as for me I am also a radio producer and audio engineer for a ministry. I also have my own production company. I am currently working with a local rap artist. We will see what happens. I have meT and ran the board for DJ LAZ at the old KTFM, also for Nasty Boy Click. It was fun. There are many more memories that I have of my time at KTFM. I still am in touch with many on my list and with many on Dom's list.

Speaking of all the old DJs from the original KTFM, were any of the station personnel, including the on air personalities, notified in advance of the format flip, when KTFM became K-ROCK? I remember driving to work in the morning on monday (I forget what year), and hearing K-ROCK instead of KTFM. When one works in radio, how does one plan for the future, buy cars, houses, etc? What do you put down on the credit application?

In my situation is that I got offered a job in El Paso 3 months before the flip. So I was gone when it happened. Before I left I do remember there were rumors of a flip to rock since 98.5 really tanked our ratings. BTW the year was 2003. To answer your question it is actually very hard to plan your future while in radio cause anyone can be let go at anytime. Unless you have Stern like numbers no one is really safe. I have known jocks who have bought homes, or started families, and out of no where they were laid off. When you are a jock in any given city, most of the time when you are let go most people go to the competition in the same city to look for work. That is of course, unless their contract has a non-compete clause restricting employment at a competing station. Most of the time when a job drys up, the jock is normally out searching the country for their new gig. Its rough but hey, it comes with the territory.
