"WGBH--We've Got Blues Here". From 1978 until her death in 2002, Mai Cramer played the blues on WGBH-FM (sometimes till sunrise!) and supported the local blues scene. She would later inspire other blues DJs like Holly Harris and so many others. 'GBH got rid of their folk and blues shows a little while ago, but we do remember her.

--Mai's husband Peter "Hifi" Ward, a musician, was on WMWM's The Juke Joint with Pete Cahill on Sunday. In this second of three parts of the interview, Pete C--who answered the phones for Mai for years--recalls his sudden start volunteering for Mai, and both recall what she was like. Those late nights lugging records into and out of the studio...the artists she had on,
WGBH "Pub Crawls"...her focus on doing her show (Pete had to filter phone calls, everyone wanted to talk to her but she couldn't really talk to everyone)...the nice letters she got,
thanking her for a show that was an important part of their lives.

There will be a tribute concert (a bit of a small tradition) in Mai's memory on May 14. Went to a previous show; there was a small audio clip of her and a sideshow (there was Pete Cahill in his Duke Robillard shirt--Duke will be one of the performers...) and many of the acts had a connection to Mai.
