There is nothing I enjoy more than reading through FCC regs and applications on a Saturday afternoon. So, I made a quick pass through license files on some local stations. A few interesting points:
WKVF/94.9 is now IDing as Germantown. This is, of course, part and parcel of their move out of beautiful Byhalia (home of the storied Byhalia Tire & Battery -- is there anything else there?). Oddly, looking at the FCC file, it does not appear that they have moved yet. I see no License to Cover applied for yet. Odd.
KIYS/101.9 Jonesboro does appear to be moving -- for sure. I noticed that late last month, the application for a move to Crawfordsville, AR as a C2 was Accepted for Filing. This all but assures the application will be approved. Signal will be OK, but not great. City grade will make it to the northern edge of the airport, get most of what's inside the 240 loop, but miss Germantown, Collierville, etc. Not sure when to expect the physical change to the facility to happen. Eventually, much ink will be spilled on this Board discussing how the station's format missed some grand opportunity to bring Memphis radio back to the glory days. But, that discussion is yet to come.
New TV34/Senatobia. In March, the CP for a new full-power TV station in Senatobia had a modification Accepted for Filing. The station asks to locate in Shelby County, along with the Memphis TV stations, with high power. It would come on as a DTV -- surely after the deadline -- and cover the City well. Like channel 14, one would expect this station to be basically irrelevant.
And, so it goes...
