Memphis HD Radio

Just out of curiosity, how many of you have HD radios either in your home or in your car? I just put one in my car today, and I was looking at some of the HD2 offerings.

97.1's HD2 channel plays more old-school hip-hop.
101.1's HD2 is Air 1 (Christian CHR, which is also on 96.7).
102.7's HD2 is actually a simulcast of News Radio WREC-AM 600.

What's shocking to me, especially in K97 and Rock 103's case (and you can include WREC in this), is that they don't even make a MENTION of these HD2 channels anywhere on their websites. Could you imagine what would happen if WREC told people they could now be heard on HD-FM radio? Do you think this would at least increase sales of HD radios in Memphis?

I thought they had been promoting WREC on the HD2 for a while. Guess not? Oh well. It couldn't hurt to cross promote the HD2 now that more new cars come with fitted from the factory. The performance of the 102.7 HD signal was, when I lived there, not so great, so maybe they're holding off until they can improve it. Which they probably won't, because it's CC and why would they?

Down here in Darwin's waiting room (Mobile) CC put the tiny AM talker on the HD-2 of one of their big FM signals and even promoted it for months, but a few months ago the HDs of several CC stations all went off around the same time and the talk simulcast promotion ended. So, I dunno what CC is doing. Might be a sign they've given up on HD in general.

Never had trouble getting the 102.7 HD. It's actually at higher elevation that any other station in the market.

Rock 103s HD signal is ok at times, but more often than not it is so weak you pretty much have to be in Brunswick to get it reliably. This week is a prime example. I have had to lock my radio on analog because even in wolfchase it's in and out.
