Memphis trends out today

Since Q107.5 isn't making any headway, why not pursue one of the following options if you're Flinn: 1) Move the Spanish station at 96.1 to 107.5; I'd bet the numbers would jump, or 2) put the PIG back at 107.5.Do they think that Q is somehow protecting Hot's flank here?

Someone showed me the breakouts today, KIX is king...they nearly popped a double digit month 12+. Country and Rock...WMC-AM had a decent month, too...huge TSL.

Wow, good for Kix! Congrats, guys! How long before WMC-AM starts showing up again? Next book? Fall? I like the format, I like the music. I think the satellite service they use is boring. And when/if it takes off, how long before a FM does the format?

I've been an advocate of a country classic station for years...even before it became a legitamate format....but alas, no one listens to me. I'm a lowly spot-schlepper. I think it would do well on an FM if it actually got a little promotion....HELLO???? how about some billboards or something.

I agree, it's a legit format. Country radio in the 90s virtually ignored any music that existed before the decade, unless it was George Strait, Alabama or Reba McEntire. The powers-that-be ain't putting a dime into billboards for WMC-AM, or TV commercials or any other promotion. But I bet the printed up some nifty pens! ::)

I realize, of course, that these are TRENDS, but, other than the apparent "KIX" victory, (real hard to do with ZERO competition), what do they say?Since I'm old and out of the loop, I don't have any passwords and etc. anymore to look anything up.(I know I could go to the trouble of GETTING some, but I don't care that much)

by no means am i trying to get rid of Q in fact i only listen to 1 station more and not a competing formatif i was to use 107.5 to protect Hot I would try a format simular to Touch...Soft Soul / R&B / Jazz V & RBO do very well but i would never expect the format to make a tidal wavethe city grade is too small of a footprint and doesnt reach the west part of the city so well especially down in westwood....Smooth Jazz seemed to be good niche format for this market when it was on 98.9...I dont know if it would ever work on a class a signal though but a hybrid of jazz and UAC if done well you might be able easily pull numbers a little higher then CHR is doing.the pie is sliced thin but i still see Q as a fit... there is no other CHR station even though Memphis isnt a CHR town.. (isn't that what promotions are supposed to do..get people listening to your format)Eventually someone will flip... Buzz isn't doing too great either and the format is a mess.. what is it now? sounds like it wants badly to be 100 but without veteran personality...my scan stops all over the dial and there are only a few stations I just dont listen to... those are mainly Kix, 95.7, the Klove stations, Max, 96.1 and WUMR *the SQ I can't bare*... I hit all the others even on the left side of the dial...it amazes me how much time i spend on AM these days...I wish 92.9 would gear more in the direction of Squizz on XM.Any other ideas? What about Max it's still doing no better it seems... maybe the soft urban on it to go after 101... I know its risky for 103.5 but I think it has potential in this market.. look at the ratings of the urban stationsof course it would change #'s at EGR.. what demo is more profitable is the question?

Okay, I know I'm late..but the idea the guy pitched about turning Q into a smooth jazz/ UAC is already being done on the non-commercial side..I use to intern and know a couple of people that still work for 'QOX 88.5 FM, the city schools' station. That's the format they've been doing for a while now, jazz artist and shows often were eager to come through..Their numbers jumped to a 2.0, back when I was there a year ago..Plus they have a few jocks on air that use to work from Smooth 98 back in the day..As far as how much money the station made/ is making is unknown? but all the prime time jock are getting paid.I agree, that format work on the commerical side (if the coporate big wigs gave it some time), I'm sure a lot of jocks from 'QOX.
