Meredith Baxter alleges Ex David Birney Physically Abused Her During Marriage

On the Today Show this morning, Family and Family Ties star Meredith Baxter said her ex-husband David Birney beat her up repeated during their 15 year marriage. Baxter met Birney when they co-starred in the one-season CBS series Bridgett Loves Bernie. Two years ago, Baxter "came out" on the Today Show and announced that she is a lesbian. Baxter is the daughter of Whitney Blake, who starred in Hazel and created and produced One Day At A Time, based on her own experiences as a single mother. Birney, who was a regular cast member during the first season of St. Elsewhere, has denied the allegation. Baxter also said he coped with the abuse by drinking heavily but got sober after leaving the marriage.

...the abuse allegations are really old news. I recall Baxter making them in a piece in People Weekly magazine when Family Ties was still in production...
 
Well, I don't know about the abuse thing, but the gal sure looked better when she was married to him than the look she has now

Baxter usually plays self assured women who are relatively confident, so having her abused in real life seems like a way to sell books.

Either ways it's awful. If she's telling the truth he's a total jerk and if she's lying than that makes her a jerk.
