Merger-Bad Idea

I just don't see the Sirius/XM merger as a good idea now that it's a done deal. 75 music channel jocks being fired this week and you can bet they will be from the XM side of things. XM was sorta holding it's own and now the failing Sirius will drag XM down and destroy them both. We the consumer will be screwed and if it get's to the point they mess with the channels I like I'll be done with satellite but it looks like they won't be around anyway. :-\

XM was no more holding it's own than Sirius was. In fact, Sirius had a better growth rate over the past 3 years than XM. It is too bad that 2 competing services couldn't have stayed healthy and in business, but as it was going, they both had a good chance of folding without the merger (Sirius takeover). It is better to have one service (combined) than to have no service.

Just a rumor, but I heard channel consolidation could begin as early as Nov. 5

A friend of mine emailed me yesterday and told me that John Clay (program director of the 70s channel) was fired. He emailed her back and told. The jocks from XM that were fired have until the end of the month.

Seems like it would be better to grow both sides of the business rather than kill the competition. This deal could end up wiping both of them out anyway.

I never thought this merger was a good idea.

so i take it all of you guys think its a good idea to have multiple full time positions for one job? it doesn't make sense. i think merger was a great idea and i also knew that some duplicated positions were going to be eliminated. merger was about saving money to ensure that satellite radio can survive longtime.

also keep in mind that the main reason that its music people being let go mostly and also from the xm side is the fact that the music makes no money because its all commercial free and its technically sirius buying xm with more sirius people in the higher positions. a lot of people were going to lose their jobs reguardless of what company they worked for.

Sirius closing stock price in after hours trading was .37 a share. You all should look into what is happening to all the spectrum being freed up by the digital transition. There is a lot of new services coming to compete with over the air broadcasting and satellite radio and it will be available on your cellphones too.
