Merger Predictions for 2007

If Sirius and XM do not merge, here are my speculations for mergers.

DirecTV and XM
Dish Network and Sirius

Clear Channel to purchase XM. One time CC owned 30% or XM.
CBS to purchase Sirius – (CBS would benefit with Stern. Put him back on terrestrial radio).

XM or Sirius will be purchased by Comcast or some other cable company so they can offer video services in vehicles.

XM or Sirius will be purchased by AT&T.

Cingular will purchase XM. If Cingular does not merge with AT&T.
Sprint or Verizon will purchase Sirius.

Finally, no merger. Continue to operate independently.

Thats one of the goofiest posts in a long time. There is no business justification for any of these scenarios.

Last thing first ATT, formerly SBC, already owns Cingular.

Sat rad can't make money on radio programming so you think it would be a good idea for them to get into delivering video to cars? Getting regulatory approval would be impossible, second they'd need a lot of money for new Sats cause video eats up a lot of bandwidth and finally how may people are lined up looking to pay for video in their cars??

How can a satellite tv company justify owning a satellite radio company? Sat TV is barely getting by how is taking on a debt ridden company with a different product help them get solidly profitable?

Same question for cell companies. What would Cingular do with a sat radio company?

It is my understanding that Cingular purchased AT&T Wireless, which iwas in no way related to any other AT&T company. I have also been told that AT&T is a name that you buy and none of the companies with that name are related to one another. My source is my wife, who worked for ATT Wireless until shortly after the Cingular takeover.

According to the merger between Bellsouth and AT&T, Cingular will now be AT&T. I think Cingular would be a better name especially since may people under Cingular were once AT&T Wireless and does it make sense to go back to that name? It's rather confusing in my book.

As I understand, that's what will happen in the near future. I have to agree that it doesn't make much sense as AT&T was the most fired wireless company three years ago. That's not a brand I would want.

And, yes, I have to agree that I can't see AT&T making a play to buy satellite radio. It would have to bring them a lot of money on their side service for them to do that. I really can't imagine satellite through cell phones will bring them the money to justify such an expensive purchase!

I can imaging satellite / WiFi entertainment through cell phones. I work in an office where about 15 users have the T-Mobile Dash. We are listening to Sirius with a stereo headset on the device and the service is GREAT. I also understand Cingular / AT&T has XM and Sprint has Sirius on their phones.

I understand Sirius is looking at providing video service to autos. Well at one time AT&T was looking at purchasing DirecTV. With the purchase of Sirius or XM, this would give them an opptorunity to provide wireless video to vehicles.

I know this is far fetched, but who would of thought AT&T would be back in local phone service after their breakup in 1980.

CBS won't merge with Sirius anytime in the near future, considering CBS went to XM first to get a deal with Opie & Anthony and XM.

jacoby has been quoted today as saying after his meeting with, xmsr management .they are considering the sirius merger concept........

at one point I was sure this would never happen ..........based on the fcc mandate for two providers
