What is being done by the GOP-controlled FCC, media conglomerates,
and their high-paid lobbyists is anti-democracy!

What we have is business-minded owners deciding that local news can "go to hell"-

The bottom line rules. If the trend is allowed to continue,
the local news will become shills for promotions in order to lure advertisers.

And this related to Radio HOW??

Just gotta wonder - what does this have to do with RAY DEE O?

We all know how the media conglomerates have ruined the Radio Bidness.

Re: And this related to Radio HOW??

This is relative to the radio business, because it shows the growing leniency for the FCC to continue to loosen it's grip on media conglomerates and thus retrict freedom of speech. It is important for the radio business to stay up to date on any recent decisions the FCC is making that affect media conglomerates. This is because the FCC has Not "ruined the Radio Business," in fact it would be more effective to think that the FCC has "crippled" the radio business. Hear me when I say, the FCC could very much potentially loosen the reins even more so on media conglomerates and do far more than cripple radio. The FCC may just kill local radio altogether. In short, It is naive to think in terms of "ruined" and "not ruined," when refering to the FCC's impact on radio.

In addition, this decision will also have a direct impact on radio, because a major source for content for many talk radio personalities, and even some music jocks is none other than the local newspaper. Talk persoanlities are responsible for addressing the current "buzz" of society. The buzz is often largely discerned by newspapers, as a result, it gives personalties less "local buzz" to work with.

I appreciate the post. Any FCC decisions regarding media conglomerates is very relative to the radio business.

Back door entry perhaps

If they can pull off doing this with print media, then they can go into court citing precedent (Or Al Gore's famous "Controlling legal authority") to state that it's already res adjucata, settled law that merging media is ok.

//sarcasm on//Oh hell, nobody really WANTS to go back to mom and pop radio stations any more do they?
There were too many people in the radio business anyhow..this is a way to cull the herd as it were.
//sarcasm off//

I think I understand what the point of the post was.
With consolidation of Radio, TV, daily newspapers (in major, large, and not-so-large markets), people are trying to turn to whereever they can to try to get something... ANYTHING... different than what is being said by the major media corporations, which only want to report on news that will contribute to the companies' bottom line and make more money for the suits at the top.

I think the concern the poster is bringing up here is... are the weekly "independent" newspapers that make most of their money printing ads for "escort services" (OK, so Willamette Week and the Mercury in Portland do that), next?
______________
If it's the "greatest music ever made," why is it relegated to AM or online only?
