Merle Pollis dies

Some of you may remember Merle Pollis. He passed away at the Clinic yesterday at 69. Respiratory failure and other issues.

Merle came here from Pittsburgh, hired by John Webster to follow morning man Gary Dee at People Power WERE/1300 in 1973.

He worked for at least a half dozen stations in N.E. Ohio with his last stop being WELW.

Simply put, I was never much of a Merle Pollis fan , but I will never-ever forget the day he totally lost it on the air. Back in the mid-80's on WJW-AM 850. The day he took members of the Cleveland School Board to task over the suicide of School Supt. Dr. Fred Holiday.

To this day, I never heard such emotion from a talk show host.

Oh my. This is a shock. The same type of emotion could be felt from Pollis after the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his friend Joel Rose's death.

R.I.P. Merle.
