Merlin Media sold news-talk 106.9

Obviously, the current format disappears. (Imus was obviously a last minute cost cutting measure to make the place look more profitable before selling.) EMF will move in one of their two Christian formats.

CBS will not pick Limbaugh and Hannity back up, nor am I sure Premiere would want to bring them back there. Do they cut a deal with Salem to put them on WNTP? Or blow up one of their own signals for Rush Radio? Really, only 106.1 and 104.5 would make sense switching, and those would be a stretch.
 
Funny...so now what do Rush and Hannity do? Crawl back to CBS?

I'm sure CC could buy an AM...lots of them around.
 
Looking at CC's stations in Philly:

WDAS-FM - Not going to flip.
WIOQ - Possible, but unlikely.
WISX - Most likely to flip.
WRFF - Second most likely.
WDAS (AM) - Third most likely, but CC wants Rush Radio on FM.
WUSL - Not going to flip.

You can own 8 in Philly as long as no more than 5 are in the same band. So, they can acquire an AMer.

I'll stick with my prediction. CBS unloads 610 to Clear Channel, exits the political talk business, and puts the Sports Network plus local play by play on 1210.

Clear Channel brings Beck, Rush, and Hannity to 610.

Clear Channel is not going to flip any of its FMers to an old skewing talk format. All 5 of them are doing well.
 
CBS is not going to unload 610. They make more in national billings because they can say the network is cleared in Philly, even if no one is listening to it.
 
Heartbreaker. Oh well, it was "meh" while it lasted. The best part of IQ was the R.E.M loop before "Hannity 106.9" dashed any dreams of something innovative or listenable. A real shocker nobody in a city like Philly flocked to old white men badmouthing anyone not an old white man. The Lord giveth and The Lord taketh away... ;D

I love how WRFF is listed as second most likely :) Consistently #1 or #2 in its target demo.
 
HANNITY, LIMBAUGH & WWIQ CONSERVATIVE TEAM GETTING LAID OFF.

We all knew it was going to happen and it happened sooner than later. WWIQ has been sold to EMF.

For me, this is a concern as K-Love will compete with our stations, LIFT FM in some areas. We're local but they will have a huge signal that we can't compete against.

As far as political talk radio dropping off the FM is concerned, this will continue to happen across the US. No matter how much Limbaugh and company hype it, their audience is shrinking. Most people don't want to hear someone preaching their political position all day long. They would prefer that there is discussion with different opinions being expressed rather than someone claiming to be the be all end all. The experiment of broadcasting conservative talk on the FM in Philadelphia is now officially over.

I am sure the conservative talkers will end up on another station somewhere... It's not that there is not a market for it -- Talk radio just needs to re invent itself.. the current political head talking isn't as compelling as it once was. The "AM Talk Radio" audience is aging and talk radio needs to find ways to pull in the younger audience.

Best wishes to you Josh -- K-Love pulls in listeners despite not being local. CCM Listeners don't seem to care where their CCM comes from as long as it plays the the hits over and over and has some compelling content between the songs.
 
89.5 FM will broadcast AIR One radio and the new station will go with K-LOVE proper.

My feeling is that no one is going to pick up conservative talk on the FM. Their ratings were awful for a station with a huge signal.

The other problem from an owner's perspective, is that it's just plain difficult to sell that format to businesses. I own radio and also sell spots. People want positive, upbeat programming. Moms aren't, their kids aren't listening and most dads aren't listening to conservative talk or progressive talk. I would not want to have sell sponsor packages for Rush, Hannity and company.

It's likely some small AM talk stations will pick up the format.

Wow, who is Larry Mendte gonna bully into putting him on the air now?
At least he can continue to create the folklore about his "hugely successful" radio career ::)
