In NY, WRXP 101.9, the alt-rock turned failure-known-as-FM News turned 3.5X more successful alt-rock station, will be LMA'd to CBS, who will begin simulcasting WFAN-AM on it.
Is Merlin Media collapsing? What will this mean for i101 and Q87.7?
In my opinion: the first question can be answered with a definite maybe. Merlin just unloaded one of it's two originators to make up cash. Not sure what WRXP was originally sold to Merlin for, but it was sold to CBS for $75,000,000. Merlin may try and sell it's stations for cash to buy other stations, or it may do this to prevent bankruptcy ("FM News" was arguably the most expensive flop in a major market in the past few years).
The second question? Their future is already uncertain, and this just shook the ground even more. I can't really answer beyond that.
Any other ideas?
