"Merry Christmas" versus "Happy Holidays" On-Air

As a Jew (a Christian one) I do not consider it maligning to say that Jews are savvy at finding profitable ways to earn money. I was making a point that many Jewish artists know where they can make money. If someone else said it, I would consider it a compliment.

As a matter of fact, no one knows what date Jesus was born. It was probably not in winter using Scripture as a guide.

There have been no shortage of guesses and pronounciations, but no one really knows the date.

Re: On Political Correctness

I am not a political correctnick. I am not a racist either. I try to be honest about things and sometimes people get offended. I sometimes could be more tactful.

Merry Christmas
(To my parents) Happy Hanukkah.

Conceivably, that remark might be offensive to them and to other people.

I wonder.

I don't care if their name is Verdi: You missed my point.

I suspect they might be offended by your remark, "Jews
know where there is an opportunity to make money."

I feel sorry for your parents, losing you like that.

I'm watching a PBS program on channel 2 right now, which
mentions the problem of the unfortunate Jews who converted
(the easy way to assimilate in American society). They're
talking about Rebecca Gratz right now. Maybe you learned
about her in Sunday school? I did.

Gratz was observing with alarm as evangelical groups were reaching out with ever-increasing fervor to bring an irreligious nation back into the Christian fold. Philadelphia was experiencing an influx of destitute Jewish immigrants who were falling prey to these messages and the charity that went with them.

Together with a handful of Jewish women friends, Gratz decided it was high time for the Jewish community to respond in kind. The result was twofold: the Female Hebrew Benevolent Society in 1819, designed to provide aid and education separate from congregational life; and, somewhat later, the birth of the first independent Jewish Sunday School--Gratz borrowed the term from the Christian model.

Re: Green Christmas (excuse the pun)

My parents did not lose me. They still consider me their son as much now as when I had my bar mitzvah.

I am a MOST fortunate Jew. I am BLESSED because I believe in Jesus Christ and I have received eternal life by my belief in Him. The Jews who do not believe will die and spend eternity in torment (Hell). I am Blessed because after I die I will spend eternity with God in His kingdom forever. I pity those Jews who reject the free offer of Heaven.

As far as assimilation. If you knew me, you would know that more than most, I do not care what people think of me, almost to the point of it being neurotic. It certainly did not help my marriage.

I am sorry for an off-topic response. I try hard to stay on topic of radio here.

I hope so... and you're very fortunate.

OK.... How many people of all cultures (Jews, Indians,
Africans, Pagans, etc.) have been tortured and murdered
in the name of Jesus over the centuries because
they "rejected the free offer of Heaven." Probably
including some of your ancerstors.

Poor self-image. You were the ideal candidate for
recruitment into a cult.

OK. Sorry. Never mind. Enough. You just don't understand
what a poblem assimilation is. Here's a fragment I wrote
down from the TV show I mentioned the other night: "or
would this benevolent society lead to their assimilation
and disappearance?" Sadly, you are an example of this.

Merry Christmas... and thanks for writing about Bwana Johnny.
